Jazz's Lauri Markkanen: Ruled out for Sunday
Markkanen (illness) won't play Sunday against the Thunder.
An illness will force Markkanen to miss his first game of the season Sunday, but with Utah's next game not coming until Friday in Memphis, Markkanen will have plenty of time to rest up. With the Jazz's star unavailable Sunday evening, Keyonte George and Ace Bailey should see a sizeable uptick in usage, and there will be more minutes available for Kevin Love, Kyle Filipowski and Kyle Anderson.

Jazz's Lauri Markkanen: Added to injury report
Markkanen (illness) has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday's game against the Thunder, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
Markkanen is a late addition to the injury report and is at risk of missing his first game of the season due to an illness. If the 28-year-old forward is ultimately ruled out, Kyle Filipowski, Kyle Anderson and Brice Sensabaugh are candidates for increased playing time, while Taylor Hendricks could enter the rotation.

Markkanen finished with 18 points (5-13 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 6-6 FT), nine rebounds and two assists over 26 minutes during Friday's 146-112 blowout loss to the Knicks.

Markkanen helped Utah close things out with 10 fourth-quarter points, and his performance Thursday marked the ninth time this season that the veteran forward has scored 30-plus points in a game. He is off to a terrific start to the 2025-26 regular season, averaging a career-high 28.1 points along with 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.0 threes and 0.9 steals over 35.5 minutes per game. Markkanen will look to carry his momentum into the second leg of the Jazz's back-to-back set Friday against the Knicks.

The veteran forward has been locked in over the last couple of weeks. Markkanen has drained multiple three-pointers in seven straight games, averaging 30.4 points, 6.1 boards, 4.0 threes, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals during that stretch while shooting 52.1 percent from the floor, 44.4 percent from beyond the arc and 90.7 percent from the charity stripe. Trade rumors are still swirling around Markkanen, and his current level of performance isn't going to make the price tag any cheaper if the Jazz do elect to finally move him.

However, a tough shooting night led to his lowest scoring total since the first game of the season, when he dropped 20 points Oct. 22 against the Clippers. Even on a down night, Markkanen nearly managed to reach the 30-point threshold while contributing on the boards.
