Lions coach Jim Schwartz said rookie Devin Taylor will be asked to play a bigger role on defense after the team lost starting defensive end Jason Jones to a season-ending knee injury Sunday against the Redskins.
"We've got a lot of different ways (to replace Jones) and I think I said yesterday, we're going to lean on Devin Taylor, also there," Schwartz said at his Monday press conference, per MLive.com. "A lot of the same things we like about Jason, we like in Devin. He played well at times in preseason, but he needs to grow up quickly."
Taylor has been active for just one of three games. He played three snaps Week 2 against the Cardinals and had no stats.
"Taylor has shown some really good things," Schwartz said immediately after the Lions' win over the Redskins. "He's only been active for one game, but it will be his time to step up."
