Hakeem Valles: Announces retirement
Valles announced his retirement from football via his personal Instagram account Thursday.
An undrafted free agent out of Monmouth in 2016, Valles didn't start playing tight end until halfway through college and probably faced a steep learning curve compared to other rookies at his position. He ultimately appeared in 15 games for the Lions and Cardinals over the last three seasons, but was only targeted five total times in the passing game and will go down with only two catches for 11 yards to his name.

Hakeem Valles: Lands on practice squad injury list
Valles was placed on the Giants' practice squad injury list with an undisclosed injury.
At the current moment, it's unclear what led to Valles' placement on the injury list. Valles was brought onto the team's practice squad in late November and has yet to be promoted to the active roster. He'll have to wait until next season for another shot.

Valles was signed to the Giants' practice squad Tuesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
The Monmouth product suited up in three games for Detroit this season and caught two of three targets for 11 yards. With Evan Engram nursing a hamstring injury, Valles could provide depth at the tight end position for the Giants.

Valles is making his case for a spot on the 53-man roster, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.
Valles looked excellent in joint practices against the Giants, hauling in a pair of touchdown passes while spending significant time with the first team. No. 2 TE Michael Roberts has struggled during August practices, so Valles could certainly spell him with both his run-blocking and pass-catching ability. Still, Valles hasn't made a catch over 12 games since entering the league in 2016, so his fantasy impact will be minimal behind starter Luke Willson.

Lions' Hakeem Valles: Logs 36 total snaps in season finale
Valles logged 18 offensive snaps but was held catchless in one appearance for the Lions in 2017.
Valles, in his second season out of Monmouth, spent part of 2017 on the Lions' practice squad before getting promoted to the active roster in late December. He remains under contract with Detroit in 2018 but seemingly only has a chance to stick around if Detroit parts ways with the No. 2 tight end and soon-to-be free agent, Darren Fells.

The Lions promoted Valles from their practice squad Tuesday.
Valles assumes the roster spot of guard Don Barclay (concussion), who was placed on injured reserve. The 25-year-old will slot in fourth on the depth chart at tight end in Detroit, making it unlikely that he suits up in the season finale Sunday against Green Bay.
