Smith was waived by the Browns on Thursday.
Smith, a 2016 undrafted free agent, was waived by Cleveland two weeks prior to the 2018 NFL Draft. Despite recording only nine snaps for the 2017 Browns, Smith was nearly traded to the Seahawks for a conditional 2020 pick -- though the trade was ultimately rescinded after Smith reportedly failed his physical. The 24-year-old will go through the league's waiver process, and become a free agent if he goes unclaimed.

Broncos' C.J. Smith: Latches on with Broncos
Smith inked a deal with the Broncos on Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The 24-year-old cornerback will work with his third team in as many years. He's only suited up for 13 games over the previous two campaigns, totaling 10 defensive snaps and two tackles. Entering into a deep secondary in Denver, Smith will fight for a reserve role.

Browns' C.J. Smith: Trade rescinded
Smith will remain in Cleveland after the agreed-upon trade with the Seahawks was rescinded, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
The teams agreed to the deal three days ago but the trade fell apart after Smith reportedly failed his physical. He will return to the Browns, where he logged one tackle in three games last season.

Seahawks' C.J. Smith: Shipped to Seattle for conditional 2020 pick
Smith was traded to the Seahawks on Monday.
The Browns opted to ship Smith to the Pacific Northwest for a conditional 2020 seventh-round pick. Smith, 24, has appeared in just 13 combined games for the Eagles and Browns since entering the league back in 2016.

Smith was signed by the Eagles from the practice squad Thursday, Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal reports.
