Davis Cheek: Joins Panthers' practice squad
Carolina signed Cheek to its practice squad Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
After parting ways with Baker Mayfield on Monday, the Panthers saw fit to bring in Cheek to handle some practice reps at quarterback. Barring an injury to Sam Darnold or PJ Walker, it's unlikely the undrafted rookie out of Elon will suit up with the active roster in 2022.

Davis Cheek: Gets let go
Carolina waived Cheek on Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Cheek joined Carolina in May as an undrafted free agent out of Elon. However, with the recent addition of Baker Mayfield, Cheek became expendable with Matt Corral, P.J. Walker and Sam Darnold also on the roster as options at quarterback.
