Gervarrius Owens: Let go by Big Blue
The Giants waived Owens (knee) on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Owens wasn't waived with an injury designation, indicating that his knee isn't causing him any issues. The 2023 seventh-round pick will look to catch on with a team in need of depth in the secondary.

Giants' Gervarrius Owens: Dealing with knee issue
Owens missed practice Sunday due to a knee injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
The severity of Owens' injury hasn't yet been made clear, but an absence of more than a few days could impact his chances of making the Giants' 53-man roster. Owens is competing for a depth role at safety after being selected in seventh round of the 2023 Draft and logging 36 special-teams snaps (and zero defensive snaps) over three regular-season contests last year.

Owens (hamstring) practiced fully Friday.
Owens missed the season opener last week but is now on track to play Sunday after logging his first full participation in practice this week. The rookie seventh-round pick will now look to make his NFL debut against the Cardinals but will likely see most of his playing time on special teams.

Giants' Gervarrius Owens: Ruled out
Owens will not return to Saturday's preseason contest against the Jets after suffering a hamstring injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
The 23-year-old was picked in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft and is currently listed as the team's third-string free safety behind Xavier McKinney and Nick McCloud. Owens has been fighting to make the team's active roster, but this injury most likely worsens his odds. The severity of the Houston product's injury is unknown for the time being.

Giants' Gervarrius Owens: G-Men add versatile defensive back
The Giants selected Owens in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 254th overall.
Owens is in the weird position of being both experienced and underdeveloped, perhaps in part from playing both cornerback and safety at various points for Houston. At 6-feet, 195 pounds, Owens showed plus athleticism with a 37.5-inch vertical and 125-inch broad jump, though his 4.57-second 40 from the Houston pro day is more indicative of safety-like speed. If Owens has another level of ability inside, then defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is as qualified as anyone to bring it out.
