Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Could see role expand Sunday
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Allen will "get a little bit more [snaps]" during Sunday's game against the Broncos, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports.
While the Chiefs have been without top wideout Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee) in the past two games, Allen has seen only a modest uptick in playing time. After logging no more than five offensive snaps in each of his first four NFL contests, Allen has played 25 total offensive snaps over the last two weeks while recording three receptions for 45 yards. Even if Reid sticks to his promise to find more work for Allen, it's unclear how much larger his role would grow if Rice is able to put an end to his absence this weekend. Rice took a step in the right direction toward playing in Denver by returning to the practice field Wednesday, per Taylor.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: One early catch in Week 7 loss
Allen caught one of two targets for 18 yards during the Chiefs' 20-3 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
Allen and Patrick Mahomes for an 18-yard pass on the Chiefs' second offensive play of the game, but the rookie wide receiver did not see another pass from his veteran quarterback until the fourth quarter. All three of Allen's catches this season have come over his last two games, which has coincided with the absence of Rashee Rice (knee/hamstring). Allen was on the field for 16 of the Chiefs' 53 offensive snaps Sunday, and his minimal role would decrease even more if Rice is cleared to return for Week 8 against the Broncos on Nov. 1.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Brings in two catches vs. Bolts
Allen caught both of his passes for 27 yards during the Chiefs' 22-6 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
Despite the absence of Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee), Allen was on the field for only nine of the Chiefs' 61 offensive snaps (14.8 percent). He drew a 20-yard pass interference penalty late in the first quarter before hauling in a four-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes on the first play of the second quarter, which was the first reception of Allen's career. The rookie wide receiver added a 23-yard catch midway through the fourth quarter, and he ended up finishing second among Chiefs wideouts in receiving yards ahead of Jalen Royals (24) and behind Xavier Worthy (73). Allen's small role in the Chiefs' offense would dwindle even more if Rice is cleared to return for Week 7 against the Seahawks on Oct. 25.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Fails to catch only target in Week 4
Allen failed to reel in his only target in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Raiders.
Allen went without a reception for the fourth straight contest to open his NFL career. The wide receiver impressed during the preseason, but he has yet to make his mark during the regular season. Allen could be set for an expanded role following the team's Week 5 bye week though, as both Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle) suffered injuries against Las Vegas, the latter of which is season-ending.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Six snaps in overtime win
Allen logged three offensive snaps and three special-teams snaps in Sunday's 33-30 overtime win against the Colts.
Allen struggled to get on the field despite being listed as the Chiefs' No. 4 wide receiver. The Chiefs are utilizing more 12-personnel packages with Travis Kelce and Noah Gray as it leans into a revamped ground attack spearheaded by reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker. That's led to sparse opportunities for Allen through two games, though he could be featured more as the season continues.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: No production in regular-season debut
Allen did not catch his only target during Monday night's 31-10 win over Denver.
Allen played only one snap on offense, failing to build on his preseason momentum. The wide receiver was also on the field for four snaps on special teams. Allen appears to be the No. 4 wideout behind Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton ahead of the team's matchup with the Colts in Week 2.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Labeled as reserve on depth chart
Allen is listed as a backup receiver on Kansas City's unofficial depth chart ahead of Monday's season opener versus the Broncos, Charles Goldsmith of AtoZSports.com reports.
A rookie fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati, Allen generated plenty of positive buzz in training camp and the preseason, but he doesn't appear to have a path to meaningful playing time heading into Week 1. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are locked in as the clear top two options on the depth chart, but Allen could eventually push Tyquan Thornton for the No. 3 spot. Thornton possesses more speed of the two and found some success as a vertical threat in Andy Reid's scheme last season, but Allen offers a more diverse route tree and could be a higher-volume target earner if Rice or Worthy were to miss time.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Finishes preseason quietly
Allen brought in one of two targets for 12 yards in the Chiefs' 9-9 preseason tie with the Seahawks on Friday.
The rookie fifth-round pick didn't make his catch until the opening possession of the second half. Allen was busy this preseason with six receptions on 12 targets, but those netted a modest 39 yards. Nevertheless, the Cincinnati product is likely locked into a reserve receiver role to open the 2026 season.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Three catches in preseason loss
Allen secured three of five targets for seven yards in the Chiefs' 16-15 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday.
The 2026 fifth-round pick has shown up on film in the first two preseason games, as he now has five receptions on 10 targets over that span. Allen has netted only 27 receiving yards in the process, but he's worked exclusively with backup quarterbacks such as Justin Fields and Garrett Nussmeier. Allen saw action into the second half Saturday and may well take the field again for the preseason finale at home against the Seahawks on Friday night.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Two catches in Chiefs debut
Allen caught two passes on five targets for 20 yards during the Chiefs' 20-12 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday.
Allen joined Jalen Royals and Tyquan Thornton as the Chiefs' three starting wide receivers while Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy (shoulder) observed Saturday's preseason game from the sidelines. Allen turned a screen pass from Justin Fields into a big gain the first quarter, only for the play to be negated by a holding penalty by Royals. Allen didn't end up registering his first catch until late in the second quarter, but he made a nice leaping 13-yard grab on a third-and-8 to move the chains. The rookie fifth-rounder drew praise after the game from head coach Andy Reid, who told reporters that Allen has "been doing well in camp...Looked like he picked right up from there," per Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com. Thornton is currently listed as the third starting wide receiver alongside Worthy and Rice on the Chiefs' unofficial depth chart, but Allen could play himself into a prominent role on offense with a strong performance in training camp and preseason games. The Chiefs will hit the road for their next exhibition game Saturday, Aug. 22, against the Buccaneers.
