Predators' Cody McLeod: No more Nashville reunions
McLeod won't be retained by Nashville in free agency, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports.
There's a good chance the aging enforcer has played his last NHL game, as McLeod's skill set simply isn't valued in today's NHL. He turns 35 later this month and was held to a single point in 38 games between the Rangers and Predators last season, adding 67 PIM.

Predators' Cody McLeod: Riding pine
McLeod has been a healthy scratch in 13 of 20 games -- and eight of the last nine -- since joining the Predators via trade in February.
McLeod has just a single goal in 38 combined games with the Rangers and Predators this season, and he's averaging a paltry 6:29 in ice time -- the lowest TOI of his career. Unfortunately for McLeod, his toughness and willingness to drop the gloves are no longer in demand in the NHL, as there has been a shift in the past few seasons towards skill and speed -- two attributes which McLeod sorely lacks. Unless the Preds run into injury trouble, he is unlikely to see any significant ice time down the stretch and into the playoffs, and you likely will not see him back with the team next season.

Predators' Cody McLeod: Moving back to Nashville
The Rangers have sent McLeod back to the Predators in exchange for a 2020 seventh-round pick, Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger of TSN report.
McLeod spent two seasons (2016-18) in Nashville, adding seven points and 155 hits over a 54-game span. While he's strictly a fourth-line grinder in charge of knocking opponents off the puck, McLeod should benefit from the move back to a contending team, especially when it's time for him to be unleashed during the playoffs.

McLeod (hand) is expected to miss at least 2-3 more weeks before returning to the lineup, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.
McLeod has already been out of action since Nov. 21 (a stretch of eight games) and now appears set to miss the remainder of 2018. Even once cleared to return to action, the winger could be hard-pressed to crack the lineup given the team's forward depth and the emergence of Filip Chytil and Brett Howden.

McLeod could be sidelined 4-6 weeks due to a fractured hand suffered Wednesday against the Islanders, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.
McLeod fractured his hand during a fight with Islanders defenseman, Ross Johnston. While disappointing for both player and team, the injury itself does little to alter the fantasy landscape. For his career, the bruising forward has averaged just 0.17 points per game and therefore can be ignored in virtually all formats regardless of health.

Rangers' Cody McLeod: Gets 16 PIM on one sequence
McLeod racked up 16 PIM in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens.
All of McLeod's PIM came on a second-period sequence that started with Montreal's Max Domi taking a run at Rangers youngster Filip Chytil. McLeod responded by laying a big hit on one of Domi's teammates, causing a fracas that ultimately led to two minutes for charging, four minutes for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct for the enforcer. New York killed off the ensuing four-minute Montreal power play and proceeded to score four unanswered goals. McLeod's yet to crack double-digit minutes in a game this season, but his willingness to mix it up could benefit owners in search of single-category help in PIM.

Physicality is the name of McLeod's game, as evidenced by his 109 PIM and 127 hits in just 45 appearances this season. While those totals are impressive, there are better sources for production in those categories than a guy who has scored just four points this season while failing to crack double-digit minutes in any of his past 11 appearances.

Rangers' Cody McLeod: Scooped off waivers by Rangers
McLeod was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
The Predators waived McLeod on Wednesday, as they're anticipating the return of Filip Forsberg (hand), a star winger who is far more valuable than the physical McLeod. The 11th-year winger's game would have fit better in the earlier part of the decade, when most teams had at least one designated enforcer. McLeod has amassed 1,524 PIM through 713 games between the Avalanche and Predators, albeit with only 124 points.
