Luke Gazdic: Hangs up skates
Gazdic announced via his personal twitter account Thursday that he's chosen to retire from professional hockey.
The 31-year-old most recently played for AHL San Diego, going pointless in seven games during the 2019-20 season. Gazdic played four seasons in the NHL with Edmonton and New Jersey, producing five goals and eight points across 147 career games.

Flames' Luke Gazdic: Heads to waiver wire

Despite limited ability (eight career points), Gazdic has managed to play 147 games over a four-year NHL career through his toughness and willingness to fight. He's unlikely to be claimed by another team while on waivers, so he'll likely head to the minors to begin the season.

Gazdic has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames.
Gazdic saw action in just 11 games for the Devils last season, as he spent most of his time in the AHL with their affiliate in Albany. He should provide some extra depth for the Flames after inking a one-year deal Sunday, but it wouldn't be surprising if he saw a bunch of time in the AHL again during the upcoming campaign.

With the Devils losing forwards Vernon Fiddler (lower body) and Taylor Hall (lower body) to injury in recent days, Gazdic was called up to shore up the offensive front. Albany plays a game Monday before the Devils return to action Tuesday, so it's quite possible the team is getting him some extra action and will recall him again. Even if he does rejoin the NHL club, he's seen very little ice time (7:18 per game) and hasn't impacted the box score enough to be worthy of fantasy ownership.

Gazdic's promotion is somewhat surprising, as the Devils added another forward rather than shoring up a blue line that currently lacks depth.
