Ben Sexton: Announces retirement
Sexton announced his retirement from professional hockey Saturday.
Sexton cited concerns about his long-term health after missing the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign due to a concussion as the driving force behind his decision to retire. The 2009 seventh-round pick spent the vast majority of his seven-year career in the minors, though he did appear in two NHL contests with the Senators in 2017-18.

Penguins' Ben Sexton: Traded to Pittsburgh
The Senators traded Sexton and Macoy Erkamps to the Penguins in exchange for Stefan Elliott and Tobias Lindberg on Wednesday.
This is simply a swap of minor-league assets. Sexton will report to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he'll almost certainly remain for the rest of the campaign.

Sexton was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.
With Sexton reassigned to the minors, this signals that veteran Marian Gaborik (undisclosed) could be ready to rock against the Panthers on Thursday evening. Selected by the Bruins with a 2009 seventh-round draft pick, Sexton will look to build upon his output of 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) through 28 games with the AHL's Senators this campaign.

Sexton has 10 goals and 21 points in 28 games with the AHL's Senators this season, which is pretty good. However, his upside is limited. The 26-year-old has yet to play in an NHL game, and one assumes that if he was ever going to make an impact in the big leagues that would have happened already.

Senators' Ben Sexton: On waiver wire
Sexton was waived by Ottawa on Friday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Sexton -- a four-year collegiate athlete with Clarkson University -- is still looking to break into the NHL. The center spent the 2016-17 campaign with AHL Albany as part of the Devils' organization and set career highs in goals (19) and assists (12). If he goes unclaimed, the 26-year-old will join AHL Belleville for 2017-18.

Sexton signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Senators on Saturday.
The 26-year-old center will head to Ontario, his home province, in search of his NHL debut. He's played his first three professional seasons in the AHL, where he scored 19 goals and 31 points in 54 games last season.

Bruins' Ben Sexton: Healthy and producing
Sexton (hand) returned to action on Nov. 13 against AHL Albany, logging one shot on goal and four PIM in the contest.
Sexton underwent surgery on his hand on Oct. 19, but is now fully healthy, and playing pretty well, tallying two points (one goal, one assist) and 12 shots on goal in the Providence Bruins' last six games. The 24-year-old could get an opportunity to make his NHL debut with the big club at some point this season.

Sexton (hand) is out indefinitely with a hand injury, Mark Divver of the Providence Journal reports.
What originally looked like a minor injury will now keep Sexton out indefinitely. It's unclear as to the extent or the specifics of the injury, but this appears to be a longer-term injury than originally expected. The seventh round pick of the 2009 draft had three goals and nine assists in 35 games for AHL Providence last season.
