Bertschy signed a four-year contract with the Lausanne Hockey Club in Switzerland on Wednesday.
Bertschy received a qualifying offer from the Devils, but evidently, he was more comfortable with the idea of returning home. The 24-year-old has totaled just one point (an assist) over nine NHL games as a former member of the Wild.

Devils' Christoph Bertschy: Called up Monday
Bertschy was recalled from AHL Binghamton on Monday.
With the Devils traveling back to New Jersey while facing a 2-0 series deficit, Bertschy is part of a group of players -- including Nick Lappin, Michael McLeod, Blake Pietila, Kevin Rooney, Brian Strait and Michael Kapla -- that will practice with the team and provide depth. Barring a rash of injuries to the first 23 names on the Devils roster, Bertschy and his fellow "black aces" are unlikely to appear in any postseason contests.

Devils' Christoph Bertschy: Dealt to New Jersey
The Wild traded Bertschy and Mario Lucia to the Devils on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Viktor Loov.
Bertschy is cashing out the balance of his three-year, entry level contract, and he'll become a restricted free agent this summer. The Swiss skater doesn't hold much fantasy appeal based on his relatively low draft position (2012 sixth-rounder) and lack of experience on the big stage, but the Devils have experienced their fair share of injuries up front and could use the extra depth.

Bertschy was returned to AHL Iowa on Wednesday.
Bertschy's most recent call-up had been tied to the status of established pivot Mikko Koivu, who has since returned to game action after battling the flu. Still, the former has been one of Minnesota's favorite call-ups this season, so expect to see him back with the parent club when the injury or flu bug inevitably threatens the crop of forwards yet again.

Bertschy was called up from AHL Iowa on Monday, Michael Russo of the Star Trib reports.
Per Russo, it will be announced Tuesday whether he'll suit up for that evening's contest in Dallas. Captain Mikko Koivu (flu) made the one-game road trip but his status to play is uncertain, so Bertschy's best chance to play presumably would be if Koivu is unable to suit up. The 22-year-old has a single assist across eight NHL contests (five this year) and 15 points in 36 AHL games this season.

Despite five outings in the majors so far this year, the 22-year-old is still looking for his first NHL goal. The center figures to be a frequent call up when injuries inevitably come up for the Wild, but given his lack of consistent minutes, should probably be left off your lineup except in the deepest of leagues.

Bertschy will be returning to Minnesota just days after being sent down to Iowa in what will likely be a recurring theme for much of the season. With a litany of injuries for the Wild, the center adds some additional forward depth and could see action in his fourth consecutive NHL contest. The 22-year-old is still looking for his first career goal in the majors, but will need to maximize his limited opportunities as he is averaging just 8:25 of ice time per night.

The forward depth in Minnesota is currently fluid because of knee injuries to Zach Parise and Justin Fontaine. Bertschy is a popular call-up, however, as he is a young and promising offensive talent who can fly down the ice. Prior to getting summoned by the parent club, Bertschy added two goals, four assists and 10 PIMs with AHL Iowa for the 2015-16 season.
