  • Canadiens' Ryan Johnston: Sent down to AHL

Johnston was sent to AHL St. John's on Thursday, Eric Engels of Rogers Sportsnet reports.

The blueliner hasn't suited up in the last nine games, and in his seven games on the ice, he hasn't registered a point and only one hit, making him a fantasy non-factor. With the All-Star break coming up, it's possible that the Canadiens plan to send him down to get some work, and then call him back up before Tuesday's game, but time will tell if that's their plan or not.

  • Canadiens' Ryan Johnston: Active for Thursday's game

Johnston was on the active roster for Thursday's 3-2 win over the Panthers. He had two PIM, one shot on goal and one blocked shot in 11:44 of ice time.

Johnston made his season debut for the Canadiens, who called him up from AHL St. John's earlier this week as insurance while Andrei Markov (groin) mends. Not much is expected out of Johnston, who replaced Zach Redmond on the third defensive pair.

  • Canadiens' Ryan Johnston: Promoted to big club

The Canadiens recalled Johnston from AHL St. John's on Tuesday.

Andrei Markov (groin) has already been ruled out of Montreal's next three games, so Johnston will round out the Habs' depth at defense while the Russian defender is in recovery mode. Johnston has seven points (one goal, six assists) in 23 games with AHL St. John's this season, and will likely return to the minors as soon as Markov is fit to play.

  • Canadiens' Ryan Johnston: Assigned to AHL St. John's

Johnston was sent to AHL St. Johns after training camp, TSN reports.

The defenseman played in three games at the end of the year for Montreal last year, and had an outside shot of making the opening day roster this season. He will start the year in the minors, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him jump back up to the NHL at some point this season.

  • Canadiens' Ryan Johnston: Makes NHL debut

Johnston, who was called up from St. John's of the American Hockey League earlier this week, was activated for Tuesday night's 4-1 loss to Florida. He was on the third defensive pairing and had a hit and shot on net in 12:05 of ice time.

Johnston is yet another player to make his NHL debut for the Canadiens this year and became the 15th defenseman to play on Montreal's blueline in 2015-16, a franchise record. His opportunity came about when another player making his pro debut, Brett Lernout, was injured in the previous game. The 24-year-old may hang until the end of the season due to the injuries on defense, but will not have a big role going forward. He is, however, looking to leave an impression on the coaches in advance of next season's training camp, when a couple of blue-line spots ought to be up for grabs.

  • Canadiens' Ryan Johnston: Joins Habs on emergency basis

Johnston was recalled from AHL St. John's on an emergency basis Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

A lack of healthy blueliner's could lead to the 24-year-old making his NHL debut with the Canadiens on Tuesday against the Panthers. However, there's no guarantee that will be the case and Johnston's stay with the parent organization will likely be a short one so he can be avoided in the majority of fantasy leagues.
