Stars' Jake Oettinger: Earns shutout Monday
Oettinger stopped all 13 shots he faced in Monday's 5-0 win over the Sharks.
Oettinger wasn't heavily tested, but he turned aside everything San Jose sent his way to record his first shutout of the season -- and the 17th of his NHL career. Dallas controlled the contest after Miro Heiskanen opened the scoring late in the first period and eventually provided Oettinger with five goals of support. The victory was also the Stars' first of the season following a disappointing start. As for Oettinger, he's given up just two goals on 35 shots faced in the early stages of the 2026-27 campaign. This was his second start of the season, and while Casey DeSmith is a competent goalkeeper, Oettinger should be the No. 1 option as long as he's healthy.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Tending twine against San Jose
Oettinger will start Monday's home game against the Sharks, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
Oettinger drew the Opening Night start at home against the Blues on Friday, and he allowed two goals on 22 shots during the 4-0 loss, with two goals being empty-netters. He got the night off in the second half of a back-to-back set Saturday in Nashville but will return to the crease a few days later in search of his first win of the 2026-27 campaign.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Gets no help in loss
Oettinger stopped 20 of 22 shots in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Blues. The last two goals were empty-netters.
Oettinger missed the preseason due to a lower-body injury, but the 27-year-old was cleared to play as of Wednesday. He did a decent job between the pipes Friday, but his teammates weren't able to give him any support. It's a tough loss to begin the year, but Oettinger has a winning track record with at least 30 victories in five straight years. He should see a starter's workload in 2026-27, though Dallas also has a capable backup in Casey DeSmith, who will probably get the nod Saturday in Nashville.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Starting regular-season opener
Oettinger was the first goalie off during Friday's morning skate, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports, indicating that he'll draw the home start during the Stars' regular-season opener against the Blues.
After dealing with a lower-body injury late in the preseason, Oettinger was recently deemed available for the start of the regular season, and he'll officially be in the net for the Stars' Opening Night matchup. The 27-year-old should reprise his role as the Stars' primary goaltender during the 2026-27 campaign after he went 35-12-6 with a 2.59 GAA and .899 save percentage across 54 regular-season appearances last year.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Healthy going into season
Oettinger (lower body) is available for Friday's season opener at home against St. Louis, per Owen Newkirk of DLLS Sports.
Oettinger hasn't been named the starter for the upcoming game versus the Blues, but the chances of him getting the assignment are high. He had a 35-12-6 record, 2.59 GAA and .899 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances with Dallas in 2025-26. Oettinger is Dallas' clear No. 1 netminder, while Casey DeSmith is set to continue to serve as his understudy.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Unavailable for preseason finale
Oettinger (lower body) won't suit up for Friday's preseason finale on the road against Minnesota, Robert Tiffin of NHL.com reports.
Oettinger was scratched from Wednesday's preseason start at home against the Wild due to lower-body tightness and was initially considered questionable for Friday's rematch. Although head coach Glen Gulutzan downplayed the severity of Oettinger's injury Thursday, the netminder will be rested during the Stars' preseason finale. It seems unlikely that Oettinger's injury will impact his availability for Opening Night at home against the Blues on Oct. 2.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Questionable for Friday
Oettinger is dealing with lower-body tightness and is questionable to play Friday in a preseason road game versus the Wild, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Oettinger was scratched from his expected start Wednesday because of the issue. With the 27-year-old goalie being questionable for Friday, it's possible he ends up seeing no game action during the preseason. That said, the issue doesn't appear to be something that will linger into the regular season, which begins when the Stars host the Blues on Oct. 2.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: No longer starting Wednesday
Oettinger (undisclosed) won't play Wednesday at home versus the Wild, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Oettinger was expected to get the start, but he did not take the ice for warmups. No reason was immediately available. Oettinger will have one more chance to get into preseason game action Friday in Minnesota if he's fit to do so.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Set to start Wednesday
Oettinger is expected to guard the home goal in Wednesday's preseason game against Minnesota, per Robert Tiffin of NHL.com.
Oettinger had a 35-12-6 record, 2.59 GAA and .899 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. That marked a career low for him in terms of save percentage and a substantial drop from his .912 save percentage across 251 regular-season outings from 2020-21 through 2024-25. Even after that drop, Oettinger's position as Dallas' No. 1 netminder is secure going into the 2026-27 campaign, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him do better this season.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Unable to extend series
Oettinger stopped 16 of 19 shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Wild in Game 6. The last two goals were empty-netters.
The Stars weren't able to generate much on their chances outside a pair of second-period tallies. Oettinger went 2-4 with a 2.83 GAA and an .893 save percentage over all six games in the first round. The 27-year-old will have a longer offseason than he's accustomed to, but he is under contract long term after signing an eight-year extension in October of 2024. He'll be among the top tier of goalies available in fantasy drafts in the fall.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Starting Game 6
Oettinger will protect the road goal versus the Wild in Game 6 on Thursday, Dylan Loucks of The Hockey News reports.
The Stars will stick with Oettinger in an elimination game. He has gone 2-3 with 16 goals allowed on 159 shots (.899 save percentage) over the first five games of this first-round series. If Oettinger can earn the win Thursday, he's likely to get the nod again Saturday for Game 7.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Drops Game 5
Oettinger stopped 24 of 27 shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Wild in Game 5. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Oettinger gave up a goal in each frame, and the Stars' offense wasn't accurate enough to compensate for that. He has allowed 16 goals on 159 shots over five games in this series, which the Stars now trail 3-2 with Game 6 set for Thursday in Minnesota. Oettinger doesn't seem at risk of losing his starting role, but he will need to be at his best Thursday to get the series back to Dallas for Game 7, which would be played Saturday, if necessary.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Starting in pivotal home game
Oettinger will be between the home pipes Tuesday against the Wild in Game 5, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
Oettinger has conceded at least three goals in three of the four games in this series. The 27-year-old netminder has registered a .902 save percentage and a 2.69 GAA so far in the postseason. Oettinger will see a change in front of him Tuesday, as Ilya Lyubushkin will draw into the lineup for Nils Lundkvist (face). Meanwhile, Mats Zuccarello and Yakov Trenin are questionable for the Wild in Game 5 due to upper-body injuries.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Tough OT loss in Game 4
Oettinger made 40 saves Saturday in the Stars' 3-2 overtime loss to the Wild in Game 4 of their first-round series.
There wasn't much Oettinger could do on any of the pucks that got past him, including the OT winner that Matt Boldy tipped home on a shot from the blue line by Jared Spurgeon. The 27-year-old netminder sports a 2.69 GAA and .902 save percentage through four playoff games, and the series is tied 2-2 heading back to Dallas for Game 5 on Tuesday.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Slated starter Saturday
Oettinger is expected to start on the road in Game 4 against Minnesota on Saturday, per Dylan Loucks of The Hockey News.
After allowing five goals on 28 shots in the first-round opener, Oettinger has won Dallas' past two games while stopping 57 of 62 shots (.919 save percentage). He had a 35-12-6 record, 2.59 GAA and .899 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances. Minnesota finished the regular season in a three-way tie for 10th in goals per game with an average of 3.27. However, the Wild are missing an important member of their forward corps in Mats Zuccarello (upper body).

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Prevails in double overtime
Oettinger stopped 28 of 31 shots in Wednesday's 4-3 double-overtime win over the Wild in Game 3.
The Wild had a lot of pressure but didn't turn it into many shots. Oettinger still had to be sharp, and he was, helping to kill off five Minnesota power plays in the third period and overtime. Oettinger had allowed 10 goals on 89 shots over three in this first-round series, but his performance Wednesday put the Stars up 2-1. He'll have an extra day to rest ahead of Saturday's Game 4.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Drawing Game 3 start
Oettinger will start Game 3 on the road against Minnesota on Wednesday, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Oettinger will be in the crease for a third consecutive game to begin the Stars' first-round series. He struggled in Game 1, allowing five goals on 28 shots en route to a 6-1 loss, but he was more effective in Game 2 on Monday, turning aside 28 of 30 shots in a 4-2 victory. He'll attempt to build upon his momentum as the series shifts to Minnesota on Wednesday.
