Penguins' Philip Kemp: Big game for WBS
Kemp scored two goals and added an assist in AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 5-3 win over Bridgeport on Friday.
Kemp was off to an unremarkable start to the year before this big game. He's now at five points, 17 shots on net and 15 PIM over 15 appearances. The Penguins are already carrying eight healthy defensemen, so Kemp's best path to the NHL roster would be as a replacement depth option if Harrison Brunicke joins Team Canada at the World Junior Championship in December.

Penguins' Philip Kemp: Hits waiver wire
Kemp was waived by the Penguins on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Kemp was never going to make the Opening Night roster for the Penguins, especially given the emergence of Harrison Brunicke. For his part, the 26-year-old Kemp has logged just one NHL appearance back in 2023-24 when he was with the Oilers. Look for Kemp to feature exclusively for AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, making him a relative non-factor in fantasy contests.

Penguins' Philip Kemp: Inks two-year deal
Kemp agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh on Wednesday, per PuckPedia.
Kemp has played in just one NHL game in his career, and that came back in 2023-24, when he was with the Oilers. The blueliner doesn't offer a ton of offensive upside -- he notched 12 points in 56 regular-season clashes with AHL Bakersfield last season -- but he is a decent depth piece. While a path to NHL minutes is probably easier with the Pens, Kemp probably will still play the majority of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors.

Oilers' Philip Kemp: Waived for AHL demotion
Kemp was placed on waivers Tuesday for the purpose of assigning him to AHL Bakersfield.
Kemp notched two goals and 15 points in 64 games with AHL Bakersfield during the 2023-24 regular season. He also made his NHL debut versus Montreal on Jan. 13, logging just 2:03 of ice time. Kemp will likely spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

Oilers' Philip Kemp: Drops to AHL affiliate
Kemp was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Tuesday.
Kemp has been a healthy scratch for five of six games since being promoted from the minors Jan. 8, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. He'll likely continue to see nearly all of his game action in the minors.
