Bussi stopped 16 of 22 shots in Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Canadiens. The seventh goal was an empty-netter with 2:00 left in the third period.
Bussi had posted a save percentage of .900 or higher in 11 of his previous 16 appearances this season, but his season-long averages will take a hit after this woeful performance. There's a strong chance this was a one-off game, though, as the 27-year-old has been excellent this season. He'll aim to bounce back in his next start, which will come against Colorado on Saturday or New Jersey on Sunday.

Hurricanes' Brandon Bussi: Expected to start Thursday
Bussi is slated to start at home against Montreal on Thursday.
Bussi will attempt to earn his third straight win after turning aside 36 of 40 shots (.900 save percentage) across his past two outings. He's 13-1-1 with a 2.08 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 15 appearances this season. Montreal is tied for sixth in goals per game with 3.28.

The rookie netminder continues to shine in Carolina's stingy defensive system. Bussi's only regulation loss this season occurred Oct. 25, and since then, he's gone 11-0-1 with a 2.02 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Pyotr Kochetkov (hip) is headed for what's expected to be season-ending surgery, so Bussi is in line to handle an even bigger workload the rest of the campaign, with erratic and fragile veteran Frederik Andersen backing him up.

Bussi is coming off an 18-save effort in Saturday's 5-2 win over Detroit. He has a 12-1-1 record with one shutout, a 2.10 GAA and a .912 save percentage through 14 appearances this season. With Pyotr Kochetkov (lower body) likely to miss the remainder of the year and Frederik Andersen struggling, Bussi could seize control of the team's No. 1 netminder role. Bussi made 18 saves in a 5-2 win over Detroit on Saturday.
The first goal came after a Detroit player snagged an errant clearing pass by a Carolina defender and fed Michael Rasmussen in the slot. Bussi made no mistake. The second goal came on a redirection on the power play. Bussi, who made his NHL debut this season at age 27, continues to be a revelation this season after four campaigns in the AHL. Bussi stopped 25 of 28 shots in a 4-3 win over the Jets in his previous start last Friday. He's 5-1-0 with a 2.67 GAA and an .897 save percentage in six appearances this season. Bussi has been used sparingly behind Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov. However, Kochetkov is dealing with a lower-body injury and might miss his second straight game Friday as a result, so Bussi should see an increased workload for the duration of Kochetkov's time on the shelf.
