Fowler is coming off his first career shutout Saturday against the Penguins, and he'll draw the start in the Canadiens' final game ahead of the holiday break. Across four starts for Montreal this year, Fowler has gone 2-1-1 while allowing 10 goals on 118 shots for a .915 save percentage.

Fowler posted a 31-save shutout in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Penguins.
Fowler was excellent between the posts and cruised to the first shutout of his career. He has recorded at least 30 saves in two of four starts in his young NHL career. The 21-year-old Fowler could be a candidate to return to the AHL after Sam Montembeault returns from his conditioning assignment with AHL Laval on Dec. 28, though Saturday's shutout helps Fowler's case for maintaining a role in Montreal's crowded crease alongside Montembeault and Jakub Dobes.

Fowler will patrol the home crease versus Pittsburgh on Saturday, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Fowler will make his fourth start in his last six games. He is 1-1-1 with a 3.31 GAA and an .885 save percentage. Fowler is considered the Canadiens' goalie of the future, and it appears that he is getting every chance to grab the top spot. The Penguins are 12th in NHL scoring, generating 3.12 goals per game.

Fowler stopped 17 of 20 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers. The fourth goal was an empty-netter in the final stages of the third period.
Fowler made his third start of the campaign, and he posted a save percentage of .850 or lower for a second straight contest. He's now given up eight goals over his last two outings. If Montreal decides not to carry three goaltenders, Fowler might return to the minors after Sam Montembeault returns from his conditioning assignment with AHL Laval on Sunday.

Fowler struggled in his second NHL appearance versus the Rangers on Saturday, giving up five goals on 29 shots (.828 save percentage), though he still managed to secure his team a point with the overtime loss. While the Habs are still carrying all three netminders, it seems Sam Montembeault may be the odd man out, as he hasn't started since Dec. 2 versus Ottawa, a stretch of seven games without featuring in the crease. Still, another rough outing from Fowler could see him heading back to the minors.

Canadiens' Jacob Fowler: First NHL loss Saturday
Fowler turned aside 23 of 28 shots on goal in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Rangers.
All four goals that Fowler allowed in regulation came during a nine-minute span in the first and second periods. He tended a clean third period before giving up the OT winner to J.T. Miller. Fowler now has a 1-0-1 record with a 3.41 GAA and an .894 save percentage through his first two NHL appearances. With both Jakub Dobes and Sam Montembeault playing inconsistently this season, Fowler should get at least a few more chances to prove that he is ready to compete in the NHL.

Fowler made 36 saves in a 4-2 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday. It was his NHL debut.
The Pens didn't solve him until the third period, and the second goal came on a late power play. In other words, Fowler was exceptional. "I mean, I could have played anywhere tonight," Fowler said after the game. "And to get your first win, it's going to be special. But been to a lot of games here. Grew up a Pittsburgh fan. (Sidney) Crosby and (Marc-Andre) Fleury were my favorite players growing up." Fowler made seven saves on Crosby. The 21-year-old Fowler was selected in the third round (No. 69) of the 2023 NHL Draft. He is considered the Habs' goalie of the future.

Fowler lost his AHL season debut last weekend, but he bounced back in a big way with his first shutout in just his fifth minor-league game. The 20-year-old netminder will likely share the crease with Kaapo Kahkonen this year, though the Canadiens will want Fowler to get as much work as possible. He's one of the top goalie prospects, but with Sam Montembeault entrenched in the No. 1 role in Montreal, the big club has no need to rush Fowler's development.
