Mammoth's Dmitri Simashev: Recalled from AHL
Simashev was summoned from AHL Tucson on Thursday.
Simashev was selected sixth overall by the franchise in 2023 and the 21-year-old has played 24 games this season at the NHL level, picking up one assist and 26 blocked shots. He has been more successful for Tucson this season, potting eight goals and 20 assists in 30 appearances. The Mammoth acquired MacKenzie Weegar from Calgary on Wednesday, but it will take time to process his visa. The Mammoth currently have six defensemen on the roster, as Olli Maatta was dealt to the Flames in the Weegar deal, necessitating the recall of Simashev.

Simashev has logged 24 games in the NHL this year, recording one assist, eight hits and 23 shots while averaging 15:28 of ice time. If the 21-year-old blueliner sees additional time with the Mammoth this season, he may not play enough to offer more than low-end fantasy value.

Simashev's promotion would seem to indicate that Sean Durzi (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup versus the Panthers on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, forward Cameron Hebig was sent down to the minors. In 24 NHL games this year, Simashev has yet to score a goal while generating just one assist. As much, fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect him to suddenly start producing offensively if he gets into the lineup.

Simashev logged three assists in AHL Tucson's 5-4 overtime win over Iowa on Saturday.
Simashev has maintained a point-per-game pace since he went down to the AHL, and this was his second three-assist effort. He has four goals and 10 helpers over 14 outings, while adding a plus-4 rating and 34 shots on net. Simashev has a promising future, but a little developmental time at Tucson is working wonders for the blueliner's production and confidence.

Simashev took a couple of games to get acclimated with the Roadrunners, but he's earned five points over his last three outings. The 20-year-old defenseman's stay in the minors will probably be temporary, but the Mammoth are opting for a more veteran core of blueliners for the time being. Simashev had one helper and a minus-9 rating in his first 24 NHL appearances prior to his demotion, but playing in the AHL looks to be getting his confidence up again.

Utah also recalled Daniil But and placed Kevin Rooney on waivers during Tuesday's roster shuffle. The helper was Simashev's first point in 14 appearances for the Mammoth. Despite the lack of offense so far, the 20-year-old defenseman has settled into a top-four role, though he has not received much power-play time. He's added 17 shots on net, 17 blocked shots, 16 PIM and a minus-3 rating while primarily playing alongside Mikhail Sergachev, who scored the goal Simashev assisted on Wednesday.

Simashev also had a hit and a block in 14:25 of ice time. Although he was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Simashev isn't likely to be on the radar of many fantasy managers because he lacks offensive upside. The 20-year-old had just 16 points across 119 regular-season appearances with KHL Yaroslavl over the previous two campaigns. Simashev is on Utah's third pairing and doesn't have a role with the man advantage, which also doesn't put him in an optimal position to contribute offensively.

Mammoth's Dmitry Simashev: Inks entry-level deal
Simashev agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Utah on Wednesday.
Simashev will make the jump to North America after spending the last three years playing for Yaroslav Lokomotiv in the KHL. In 56 regular-season games this year, the 20-year-old blueliner notched one goal and five assists before adding one point in 21 playoff appearances. While Simashev figures to get a look during training camp in the fall, he will likely spend the bulk of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors with AHL Tucson.

Hockey Club's Dmitry Simashev: Set to join NHL club in 2024-25
Simashev is expected to sign with Utah when the KHL season ends and could debut with the club in April, per RG Media.
Simashev would need to sign an entry-level deal with Utah when his campaign with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv ends and would burn a year of that contract by joining up with Utah right away. Selected by the club with the sixth overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Simashev isn't exactly known for his offensive upside, having tallied just six points in 47 games in the KHL this year.
