Panthers' Cooper Black: Gets no help in NHL debut
Black turned aside 17 of 20 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Penguins, with Pittsburgh's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
Making his NHL debut. Black held his own but got no help from a Panthers roster that had played the night before and lost an emotional return to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk. The 25-year-old goes into the record books as the tallest goalie in league history at 6-foot-9, and he could get some additional starts while working behind Akira Schmid until Jacob Markstrom (upper body) is cleared to return, which is expected to happen in early November.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Slated for NHL debut
Black is expected to make his NHL debut in Thursday's road clash against the Penguins, per Jesse Granger of The Athletic.
Once Black hits the ice Thursday, he will officially be the tallest goalie to play a game in NHL history. The 6-foot-8 netminder has been the go-to option between the pipes for AHL Charlotte over the last two seasons. Prior to his call-up for the injured Jacob Markstrom (upper body), Black has posted a 2-1-0 record, a 2.67 GAA and a .919 save percentage over three appearances for the Checkers. In his debut with the big club, he's set to battle against the Penguins, who should pose a good challenge given their 3.20 goals per game this season. Black is a wildcard in fantasy for the time being.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Called up from minors
Black was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Tuesday.
Black's promotion would seem to indicate there is an injury or illness impacting one of the Panthers' goalies ahead of Wednesday's matchup with Ottawa. Having said that, the team is leaving for a four-game road trip and perhaps just wants some insurance between the pipes. Either way, Black should not be expected to actually get into the crease unless there is a legitimate injury.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Sent down Friday
Black was loaned to AHL Charlotte on Friday.
Black was called up by the Panthers on Tuesday to provide additional goaltending depth, but he didn't appear in any games during his time with the NHL club. His demotion to the minors suggests that Jacob Markstrom (undisclosed) could be nearing a return to action.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Elevated from minors
Black was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Tuesday, Alex Baumgartner of Florida Hockey Now reports.
Black is expected to serve as the backup behind Akira Schmid for Tuesday's road clash with Columbus. The move will give Jacob Markstrom, who reportedly didn't suffer an injury versus Buffalo on Monday, an extra day to ensure he's 100 percent. For his part, expect Black to return to the Checkers following Tuesday's tilt.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Decent in preseason start
Black stopped 14 of 16 shots in Thursday's 5-3 preseason win over the Lightning.
This was essentially a dress rehearsal for the AHL Charlotte roster, and Black did his part well against a veteran-laden Tampa Bay lineup. Black is projected to be the organizational No. 3 in goal for the Panthers this year. He'll be in line for a call-up if Jacob Markstrom or Akira Schmid misses any time.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Defending road crease Thursday
Black will draw the start during Thursday's road preseason game against the Lightning, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
Demko signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Panthers in early June, and he'll get a tune-up during the team's penultimate preseason game. He hasn't yet made his NHL regular-season debut, but he went 25-13-4 with a 2.47 GAA and .903 save percentage across 42 regular-season appearances with AHL Charlotte last year.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Inks two-way deal
Black signed a two-year, two-way contract with Panthers on Monday.
After a strong campaign with AHL Charlotte, Black secured his second contract with Florida. In 42 AHL appearances this season, the 24-year-old netminder posted a 25-13-4 record, a 2.47 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Even though he hasn't made his NHL debut yet, the Panthers' crease was inconsistent last season between Sergei Bobrovsky and Daniil Tarasov, leaving the door open for Black to potentially see playing time in the NHL at some point during his new deal.

Panthers' Cooper Black: Earns shutout for Charlotte
Black recorded a 27-save shutout in AHL Charlotte's 3-0 win over Grand Rapids on Friday.
Black has played in 27 games this season, going 18-7-2 with a 2.45 GAA and a .904 save percentage. He picked up his first shutout of the campaign and the fourth of his AHL career with this effort. Black was good in a limited role in 2024-25, and while his numbers have dipped a bit, he's still playing pretty well. The 24-year-old would likely be the next man up for the Panthers, which could be a situation that comes to pass if Daniil Tarasov (lower body) is still injured after the Olympic break.
