    Thomas scored the game-winning goal to lead Canada to the gold medal and a 4-3 victory over Russia in the final of the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship on Sunday.

    Thomas barely played throughout the course of the game (5:23) but he made one of his rare third period shifts count. He roofed a beautiful backhander over Russian goalie Amir Miftakhov with just under four minutes remaining in regulation for what ended up being the game-deciding goal.     Thomas' brilliant season continues. The 2018 second-round selection (51st overall) now has 53 points in 35 games for the IceDogs. He also sports a plus-24 rating and is winning nearly 54 percent of his draws. Thomas can play both center and wing, plus he is responsible defensively. Niagara is one of the best teams in the OHL and recently added a pair top prospects in Jason Robertson (DAL) and Jack Studnicka (BOS) to the mix. In other words, Thomas' production should continue for the remainder of the year.
