Bernier was sent to AHL Bridgeport on Monday.
Bernier saw time on the ice in four separate occasions during this stint with the Islanders, but never logged more than 11:34 of playing time. He only serves the purpose of organizational depth at this point in his career, but it's still possible for him to rejoin the NHL team at some point again this season.

Islanders' Steve Bernier: Set for season debut
Bernier will make his first NHL appearance since the 2015-16 campaign Saturday evening against the Kings.
Islanders GM Garth Snow raised some brows upon recalling Bernier from AHL Bridgeport on Friday. After all, the team already had two spare forwards in Alan Quine and Shane Prince on the active roster, but then again, the 32-year-old may have played his way up to the parent club, having deposited 10 goals and four helpers in 21 games with the Sound Tigers leading up to the promotion. Nonetheless, it's going to be difficult to trust the fourth-liner in fantasy.

Islanders' Steve Bernier: Brought up to big club
The Islanders recalled Bernier from AHL Bridgeport on Friday.
The Islanders loaned Josh Ho-Sang to AHL Bridgeport in a corresponding move Friday, so Bernier will round out the team's depth at forward until Ho-Sang is once again recalled by the big club. The 32-year-old winger has picked up 10 goals and 14 points in 21 games in the minors this campaign.

Bernier hit the waiver wire Monday as the Islanders look to reassign him to the minors.
Bernier -- a 2003 first-round draft pick -- has racked up 633 NHL games in which he has tallied 105 goals and 125 assists. The veteran was limited to a mere 33 outings with AHL Bridgeport Sound in 2016-17 and never managed to crack New York's game-day lineup. The winger has never managed to reach the 20-goal mark in his 12-year career, so he is unlikely to suddenly find an explosive scoring touch if he does get called back up down the road.

Bernier signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Friday.
Bernier spent the entire 2016-17 campaign in the minors as he failed to secure a call-up during the season. At this point, the winger -- who was taken No. 16 overall in the 2003 draft -- will likely fill the role of seasoned veteran with the AHL's Tigers as he helps groom young players coming up the ranks. For his career, the 32-year-old has logged 633 NHL games with 230 points and 300 PIM, but fantasy owners probably shouldn't expect too many appearances in an Islanders jersey next year.

Islanders' Steve Bernier: Signed to two-way contract
Bernier signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Monday, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
Bernier had six points in 24 games last season for the Islanders, so it's clear he doesn't have explosive firepower. However, he will provide a veteran body for a team that lost a few wingmen to injury recently. The 31-year-old has been placed on waivers, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports, and reassigned to AHL Bridgeport Sound if he is unclaimed.

Bernier has a decent shot at making the Opening Night roster and will likely be competing with the injured Cal Clutterbuck (lower body) for the final spot on the right side. Even if he does make the squad, the 31-year-old could find himself as a healthy scratch night to night. In his brief 24 appearances for New York last year, Bernier notched just six points and nine PIM, along with 42 hits; not the type of production to spur fantasy owners to start adding him to their lineups.

Bernier appears set to replace Ryan Strome in Saturday's contest against the Blues, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
At this point, it's unclear what is wrong with Strome, if anything. What is known, however, is that this will be Bernier's debut with the Islanders following a 32-point campaign with the Devils. The veteran forward will need more consistent playing time before he would merit a hard look in the fantasy realm.
