Methot (lower body) had season-ending surgery to repair a cartilage defect in his left knee Monday.
Methot's season ends with him having played in only nine games and notching zero points. Of course, he has one goal in his last three campaigns, so that's not surprising. The 33-year-old may be ready to go by the time next season begins, but at this point his potential role in the NHL seems fairly limited.

Fantasy owners likely aren't losing sleep over Methot's return date, as the veteran defenseman has exactly one goal over the last three seasons. However, the Stars would surely like the opportunity to return him to the lineup. If he's not skating, it seems unlikely he will be back before the NHL takes its Christmas break.

With all due respect to Methot, who is a solid shutdown defenseman, most fantasy owners won't be sweating out his status. He has only produced 123 points (22 goals, 101 assists) through 624 career games between the Blue Jackets, Senators and Stars.

Methot last played Nov. 1, so it's safe to say the decision to place him on IR was made retroactive to Nov. 2. Assuming that is, in fact, true, the veteran defenseman is eligible to return whenever he is deemed healthy and ready to play. Methot has missed his team's last six games with a lower-body injury and is without a point in nine appearances so far in 2018-19.

Methot hasn't played since Nov. 1 due to his lower-body issue, a stretch of five games. Methot lit the lamp once and had an assist throughout 36 games in 2017-18, while averaging 17:53 of ice time.
Prior to 2017-18, Methot had secured 10-points in each of his last five seasons, so the drop in production was surprising even though he managed just 36 contests. It seems likely injuries were what really limited the 32-year-old, as he had a knee injury that sapped him from November until February and had hand issues late in the season as well, which is especially unfortunate after he lost a finger to a Sidney Crosby cross-check last season. When on the ice Methot still was strong defensively, as he put up a plus-11 rating and 77 hits throughout his shortened season. The 32-year-old is due back for another season in Dallas, likely slotting into the second or third defensive pairing.
