These stories are generating headlines Wednesday across the SEC:
- The Alabama football team was cited by the NCAA for four secondary violations. They were among 27 violations the athletic department reported since July 2011. In one violation, Alabama's football staff provided "impermissible documents" to recruits, prompting the compliance department to educate the staff on "permissible formats for recruiting documents."
- Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney is beaming about the Vols' improved running game. "Are we the greatest running team in football history? No, but I think we're improved," he said. As of now, junior Rajion Neal and sophomore Devrin Young would be the top ballcarriers.
- Three Arkansas defensive starters -- LBs Alonzo Highsmith and Tenarius Wright and safety Eric Bennett -- are dealing with leg injuries. All three were in uniform but limited in Tuesday's practice. Defensive coordinator Paul Haynes said, "We’re just kind of being safe with them to make sure we get them 100 percent and not something that’s not going to be nagging all year."
- Jay Woods, a four-star defensive tackle from Jackson (Ga.) High School, will make his college choice Thursday afternoon. Georgia, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Kentucky are his finalists. Woods (6-2, 275) acknowledged the hometown pressure on him to pick the Bulldogs; Athens is 19 miles away.
