Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Fares well in change-of-pace role
Demercado carried five times for 30 yards and failed to haul in his lone target in Sunday's 26-19 loss to the Falcons.
After playing just seven snaps on offense in last week's loss to the Texans, Demercado saw increased playing time in Week 16 with the Cardinals placing Bam Knight (ankle) on injured reserve ahead of the game. Demercado ended up playing 18 of the Cardinals' 57 offensive snaps and ripped off gains of at least five yards on four of his carries, but he still played second fiddle to Michael Carter out of the backfield. Carter (11 carries for 65 yards, zero receptions on two targets) ended up logging 30 snaps and appears poised to lead the Arizona backfield in opportunities over the final two weeks of the season.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Coming off bench behind Carter
Demercado should have a role off the bench behind starter Michael Carter in Sunday's game against Atlanta, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Demercado seemed to be ahead of Carter on the depth chart for most of the season, but Carter has arguably fared better when tasked with a lead role, while Demercado's success as a bench player hasn't typically translated across larger workloads. Demercado's recent return from a high-ankle sprain may also be a factor, with this being his second game back from a three-game absence. He took just three touches for one yard in last week's 40-20 loss to the Texans, so it didn't come as any surprise Friday when Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon named Carter as the Week 16 starter.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Returning to action Sunday
Demercado (ankle) is listed as active Sunday at Houston.
Demercado thus is in line for his first game action since he initially suffered a high-ankle sprain during Week 11 at San Francisco. He'll join healthy backfield mates Bam Knight and Michael Carter in Week 15. In the four games in which all three have received offensive snaps this season, Demercado has totaled 18 touches to Knight's 37 and Carter's 44, which would seem to indicate Demercado will be third in the pecking order for reps, especially given that he didn't log a full practice in advance of his return.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Three touches in loss to Houston
Demercado carried the ball once for one yard and caught two of three targets for zero yards in Sunday's 40-20 loss to the Texans.
Bam Knight (ankle) left the game early and didn't return, but Demercado still didn't see a significant increase in his workload, as Michael Carter instead stepped into the No. 1 role. Demercado was returning from a three-game absence of his own due to an ankle injury, which may have contributed to his limited touches. If Knight remains sidelined in Week 16 against the Falcons, Demercado could be a little more involved.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Slated to suit up Sunday
Demercado, who is officially questionable for Sunday's game against Houston due to an ankle injury, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Demercado hasn't been able to play in any of Arizona's past three games due to the ankle issue, but he logged a trio of limited practices this week to set up his return to action. He could take on a fairly significant role right away upon his return, though it's unclear how the Cardinals will split up the workload between Bam Knight, Michael Carter and Demercado. The outlook for the trio isn't particularly bright against a Texans defense that is tied for the fourth-fewest rushing yards allowed to RBs this season.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Questionable for Week 15
Demercado (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Houston, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Demercado still hasn't logged a full practice since suffering a high-ankle sprain, but he's at least managed limited sessions for two weeks now, showing enough to be listed as 'questionable' after the past three weeks saw him ruled out Friday. Once he returns, Demercado figures to push Bam Knight and/or Michael Carter for playing time.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Another limited showing
Demercado (ankle) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.
Demercado has been listed as limited on four of the Cardinals' last five injury reports as he continues his recovery from the high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him the last three games. In the end, Friday's practice report will reveal if Demercado has a chance to rejoin Arizona's backfield Sunday at Houston, but for the time being, Bam Knight and Michael Carter are in line to continue sharing the load this weekend.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Limited again Wednesday
Demercado (ankle) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Demercado has missed the past three games due to a high-ankle sprain and hasn't yet progressed enough in his recovery to log a full practice. He'll have two more opportunities to do so the week before the Cardinals potentially make a ruling on his status for Sunday's contest at Houston. Coach Jonathan Gannon announced earlier Wednesday that Trey Benson (knee) won't be activated from injured reserve, meaning his season is over. If Demercado puts himself in a position to return to action this weekend, he'd join Bam Knight and Michael Carter as options out of Arizona's backfield.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Ruled out after Friday DNP
Demercado (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
After missing the past two games, Demercado returned to practice Wednesday and Thursday as a limited participant. He was then held out Friday and ruled out on the injury report, leaving Bam Knight and Michael Carter in charge of Arizona's backfield for another week. There is still a decent chance for Demercado to contribute later in December, especially after Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday that Trey Benson (knee) may not return this season.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Stays limited Thursday
Demercado (ankle) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Demercado now has cobbled together back-to-back capped session to begin Week 14 prep as he attempts to put the high-ankle sprain that sidelined him the last two games in the rearview mirror. Fellow RB Trey Benson (knee), who remains on injured reserve, has yet to practice this week and has only six days remaining in which to be activated. The Cardinals may make rulings on both players' statuses on Friday's injury report, but if one receives a designation, it seems more likely to be Demercado at this point. If Demercado is able to rejoin the backfield mix Sunday versus the Rams, he'll be an option along with Bam Knight and Michael Carter.

Cardinals' Emari Demercado: Limited in return to practice
Demercado (ankle) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Demercado officially was back on the practice field for the first time since he suffered a high-ankle sprain during a Week 11 loss to the 49ers. He'll have two more chances to upgrade to full during Week 14 prep, or he'll be at risk of entering the weekend with a designation ahead of Sunday's contest against the Rams. If he's active, Demercado would be in the mix for snaps along with fellow RBs Bam Knight and Michael Carter, while it's unclear if Trey Benson (knee) has a chance to return from IR after he logged a third straight DNP on Wednesday.
