The Padres declined to tender Contreras a contract for 2023, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Contreras, who turns 23 in January, returned from Tommy John surgery to make 17 starts for High-A Fort Wayne last season, posting a 5.74 ERA and 1.67 WHIP across 53.1 innings. The right-hander got additional work in during the Arizona Fall League and pitched well in a small sample.
