  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Reinstated from IL

The Marlins activated Norby (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

As expected, Norby will rejoin the active roster ahead of Friday's series opener against the Mets. The third baseman had been sidelined since July 13 due to a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist that required surgery. He slashed .241/.289/.364 in 273 plate appearances this season before the injury. Maximo Acosta was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

  • Cesar Prieto SS | STL

Cardinals' Cesar Prieto: Expected to make big-league debut

The Cardinals are expected to select the contract of Prieto on Thursday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

The Cardinals acquired Prieto in 2023, and he's spent the last two full seasons at Triple-A. He has a solid .811 OPS across 450 plate appearances, good for 113 wRC+. The team's plans for Prieto are unclear, though they'll need to formally select his contract before the move is official.

  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Will return Friday

Norby (wrist) will be activated off the injured list Friday,Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports.

Norby has been sidelined since July 13 and has been on a rehab assignment for around two weeks. He's gone 10-for-25 with three home runs during the rehab stint and should immediately return to playing nearly every day at third base.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Getting shoulder checked out

Manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Arenado will return to St. Louis in the coming days to have his injured right shoulder examined by team doctors so that the Cardinals can map out a potential rehab assignment for him, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Arenado has been rehabbing his right shoulder strain at the club's spring training complex in Florida and is still in the early stages of a throwing program. If he gets good news from his visit with team doctors, Arenado could be cleared for rehab games before long. Nolan Gorman has been serving as the Cardinals' primary third baseman since Arenado landed on the injured list Aug. 1.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Tallies three hits, two RBI in win

Chapman went 3-for-4 with a home run, two total runs and two total RBI in Wednesday's 12-3 rout of the Cubs.

Chapman and Rafael Devers combined for seven of San Francisco's 13 hits, with the former collecting three of those knocks. Among the third baseman's hits was a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and a solo homer to left field in the seventh. Chapman is still batting a poor 11-for-51 (.216 average) through 15 games in August, but he may be starting to perk up at the plate -- over his past three games, he's gone 5-for-11 with three extra-base hits (two home runs and a double).

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Tags Ohtani for homer

Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

A day after making his first career start in center field, Marte served as the Reds' right fielder Wednesday. He accounted for Cincinnati's only run of the contest when he swatted a solo homer off Shohei Ohtani in the third inning. Marte came into the game in a 3-for-19 stretch at the plate, which was on the heels of an 11-game hitting streak during which he batted a robust .447.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Launches sixth homer Wednesday

Alexander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Milwaukee.

Alexander smashed his sixth homer of the campaign, with each blast having come in the month of August. With Eugenio Suarez now in Seattle, Alexander is set to continue operating as Arizona's primary third baseman for the remainder of the year. The 26-year-old infielder is batting just .236 but has four doubles, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored over his last 89 at-bats.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Extends hitting streak to 10 games

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Phillies.

It was Vientos' seventh game of the year with at least three RBI, and he also swatted his 13th homer of the season. The 25-year-old slugger's .723 OPS in 2025 is disappointing after he posted an .838 OPS in the 2024 regular season, though he's now riding a 10-game hitting streak. During that span, Vientos is batting .395 with six big flies, four doubles and 17 RBI over his last 38 at-bats.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Early stages of throwing program

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Arenado (shoulder) is in the early stages of a throwing program while rehabbing at the team's spring training complex in Florida, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Arenado has missed all of August with a right shoulder strain and doesn't appear on track to return at the beginning of September when rosters expand. The hope remains that the veteran third baseman will make it back in action at some point this season, but until then, Nolan Gorman will continue to hold down the hot corner for the Cardinals.

  • Javier Sanoja SS | MIA

Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Yielding to Acosta in series finale

Sanoja is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Sanoja will hit the bench for the second time in the series and may have settled into more of a timeshare at third base with Maximo Acosta, who will replace him in the lineup Wednesday. Both Sanoja and Acosta are likely to see their opportunities to play at third base diminish once Connor Norby (wrist) completes his minor-league rehab assignment and is activated from the 10-day injured list.
