  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Exiting starting lineup

Springer is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Cleveland.

Springer -- who will turn 37 later this month -- will get some rest during Thursday's afternoon tilt. Sean Keys will slot in at designated hitter and will bat fifth for the Blue Jays in the rubber match.

  • Mickey Gasper DH | BOS

Red Sox's Mickey Gasper: Getting time at first base

Gasper went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Mariners.

Gasper continued an unexpected power surge that began with his return to the majors Aug. 17 -- he's gone 15-for-38 (.395) with four doubles, seven homers and 14 RBI over 14 games around a very short-lived trip to the minors for one day earlier this week. The versatile Gasper made a third consecutive start at first base in place of the injured Willson Contreras, and the Red Sox will find a spot for Gasper somewhere if he continues to hit like this.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Crushes 18th homer

Perez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 9-6 loss to the Marlins.

Perez got in on the action of a five-run first inning, crushing a two-run homer off Eury Perez. Over his past 15 games, the veteran slugger is slashing .271/.306/.441 with two homers, 12 RBI and six runs. He's been better of late, but his overall numbers are among the worst of his career, as Perez is hitting .221/.266/.375 with 18 homers, 64 RBI and 47 runs across 130 contests.

  • Angels' Moises Ballesteros: Goes yard in loss

Ballesteros went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 6-3, extra-inning loss to the Yankees.

Ballesteros went deep in the 10th inning, but the Angels weren't able to get closer than a three-run deficit. The long ball was his first in the majors since May 3 when he was still with the Cubs, a span of 54 contests without a homer for the 22-year-old. He's hitting .207 with a .594 OPS, seven homers, 29 RBI, 22 runs scored, nine doubles and one stolen base over 85 contests between the Angels and the Cubs this year.

  • Roman Anthony LF | BOS

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Three more hits, homer vs. M's

Anthony went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Mariners.

Anthony cut Boston's deficit to 8-2 in the seventh inning with a 370-foot shot off Michael Rucker, his second homer this season and first since returning from an extended IL stint. Anthony has certainly hit the ground running following a nearly four-month absence -- he has at least two hits in each of his last four games, going 9-for-18 with four extra-base hits since rejoining the Red Sox. Overall, Anthony is slashing .268/.376/.402 with 16 runs scored, six RBI and two steals across 149 plate appearances this year.

  • Giants' Bryce Eldridge: Extends on-base streak to 11 games

Eldridge went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI during San Francisco's 5-4, extra-inning win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Eldridge gave the Giants the lead twice during Wednesday's win, the second of which was an RBI double in the 10th frame. He's reached base safely in 11 consecutive games, logging at least one RBI in seven of those contests. During that 11-game streak, Eldridge has gone 16-for-42 (.381) with 12 RBI and four extra-base hits.

  • Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Launches 21st homer in win

Canzone went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-6 win over the Red Sox.

He got Seattle on the board in the first inning with a 406-foot solo shot off Jedixson Paez, Canzone's 21st homer of the year. Canzone has gone 3-for-10 with three extra-base hits in his last two games after going just 5-for-31 (.161) across his prior eight contests. Overall, Canzone is slashing .255/.326/.486 with 62 RBI and 48 runs scored through 429 plate appearances this season.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Stays hot with two-run shot

Yelich went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Cubs.

Yelich took Daniel Palencia deep for a two-run homer in the sixth inning, capping Milwaukee's four-run frame. The 34-year-old has begun to heat up at the plate, going 10-for-27 (.370) with five extra-base hits over his last eight games. Despite the recent surge, Yelich's overall production remains underwhelming with a .238/.319/.388 slash line, 10 homers, 22 doubles, two triples, 49 RBI, 57 runs and 11 steals across 98 games.

  • Mickey Gasper DH | BOS

Red Sox's Mickey Gasper: Smacks solo homer in Tuesday's loss

Gasper went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 9-6 loss to the Mariners.

Gasper got the Red Sox on the board early with a solo homer in the first inning. He's gone deep in back-to-back games and has seven homers over his last 13 games since being recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Aug. 16. Gasper should continue to see plenty of playing time over the next couple of weeks given his strong play at the plate coupled with Willson Contreras (hamstring) being on the 10-day injured list.

  • Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Homers in major-league debut

Morales went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored during Washington's 9-5 win over Atlanta on Tuesday.

Morales was promoted from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Tuesday's game, when he served as the designated hitter. He struck out swinging in his first plate appearance in the opening frame, but he bounced back in the third, smacking the second pitch he saw from AJ Smith-Shawver deep to left-center field for a solo home run. It was an impressive big-league debut for Morales, who figures to see a fair amount of playing time the rest of this season at DH and at first and third base.
