  • Drew Waters CF | KC

Royals' Drew Waters: Back with big club

The Royals selected Waters' contract from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

Waters has spent all of this season at Triple-A Omaha after being removed from the Royals' 40-man roster in late March, but he's back in the big leagues after posting a .731 OPS with 12 homers and 17 steals for Omaha. The 27-year-old will likely be utilized as an extra outfielder in Kansas City.

  • Connor Joe RF | SEA

Mariners' Connor Joe: DFA'd by Seattle

The Mariners designated Joe for assignment Tuesday.

Joe was up in the majors for much of April and May and was briefly up with the Mariners in June, but he never found his footing at the plate with a .597 OPS in 45 plate appearances. The 34-year-old has an underwhelming .262/.362/.419 slash line with eight homers and six steals in 73 games for Tacoma in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

  • Lazaro Montes RF | SEA

Mariners' Lazaro Montes: Officially promoted to big leagues

The Mariners selected Montes's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

The Mariners will give Montes a look in September as they try to make up ground in the American League Wild Card race. Montes has popped 38 home runs while collecting a .928 OPS between Double-A Arkansas and Tacoma this season, though it's also come with a 30.6 percent strikeout rate. The 21-year-old slugger should see regular playing time against righties, which would likely eat into the opportunities of the struggling Taylor Ward (.378 OPS with Seattle). Montes is starting at designated hitter and batting seventh Tuesday in Boston in his major-league debut.

  • Devin Taylor LF | ATH

Athletics' Devin Taylor: Advances to Triple-A

The Athletics are expected to promote Taylor from Double-A Midland to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The 22-year-old outfielder is regarded as one of the top position prospects in the Athletics' farm system. He earned the bump up to Triple-A after slashing .323/.409/.534 with 14 home runs and six stolen bases over 68 games with Midland following his promotion from High-A Lansing on June 9.

  • Tommy Pham DH | CHW

White Sox's Tommy Pham: Joins big-league roster

The White Sox selected Pham's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

The veteran outfielder was acquired from the Phillies for cash considerations Monday and will quickly join the White Sox with MLB rosters expanding to 28 players Tuesday. Pham went 0-for-13 in nine games for the Mets early this season but has spent most of the year with the Phillies at Triple-A, where he posted a .239/.365/.410 slash line with eight homers in 44 contests.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Back on big-league roster

The Guardians recalled Schneemann from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Schneemann hit .326/.457/.533 in 25 games for Columbus after being demoted in late July. He's sporting just a .597 OPS in the majors this season and should serve in a backup role at multiple positions in September.

  • Rays' Victor Mesa: Comes off IL

The Rays reinstated Mesa (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined since Aug. 18 due to a strained left hamstring, but he's ready to rejoin the active roster after going 4-for-18 with two homers during a five-game rehab assignment. Mesa and Jonny DeLuca could operate as a platoon in right field, with Mesa holding the advantage for playing time as a left-handed hitter.

  • Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: Joins big-league roster

The Orioles recalled Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com reports.

After getting a late start to this season due to a hamstring strain, Kjerstad has slashed .289/.337/.462 with 11 home runs over 79 contests with Norfolk. The Orioles already have three left-handed or switch-hitting outfielders ahead of Kjerstad in the pecking order, so he's a long shot to receive regular playing time in September.

  • Spencer Jones CF | NYY

Yankees' Spencer Jones: Accounts for team's only run in loss

Jones went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to the Angels.

It was a quiet night for the Yankees offense, as the club collectively produced just six hits and one run while striking out 10 times. Jones at least prevented a shutout with a solo blast in the fifth inning. The long ball was his eighth of the campaign and his first since we went deep in back-to-back games Aug. 20 and 21. Jones has continued to start most games against right-handed pitchers even since Cody Bellinger returned from the injured list. Over 28 games in August, Jones batted .239 with four homers, five doubles, 17 runs, 13 RBI and five stolen bases.

  • Cam Smith RF | HOU

Astros' Cam Smith: Plates two runs Monday

Smith went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 6-3 win over the White Sox.

Smith recorded a pair of hits, picking up a triple in the fourth frame before lacing a two-RBI double to extend the Astros' lead to 6-2 in the fifth inning. It was a much-needed performance for the 23-year-old, who entered Monday 1-for-27 (.037) over his previous 10 contests. On the year, Smith is slashing .214/.280/.392 with 17 homers, 50 RBI, 57 runs and 10 stolen bases in 134 games.
