  • Joshua Baez LF | STL

Cardinals' Joshua Baez: Lands on IL with oblique strain

The Cardinals placed Baez on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left oblique strain.

Baez was injured during Wednesday's game against the Giants, and subsequent testing revealed the strain. He will be eligible to return for the final game of the regular season, but the injury will almost surely end his campaign. It's an unfortunate conclusion to Baez's rookie season after he flashed both the good (seven home runs, .510 slugging percentage) and bad (30.6 percent strikeout rate) of his profile during his time in the majors.

  • Jake Mangum CF | PIT

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Out of lineup again Friday

Mangum is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

He's now been out of the lineup for two straight contests after starting each of the six games prior to that. Ronny Simon will play right field for the Pirates in the series opener.

  • Cardinals' Everson Pereira: Cleared for rehab games

Pereira (hand) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single along with two walks.

It was the first game action in nearly a month for Pereira, who is working his way back from a left hand contusion. It's unclear whether the 25-year-old outfielder will need any more rehab contests, but he's poised to rejoin the Cardinals' active roster before the regular season concludes. Once he does return, Pereira could see playing time versus lefties.

  • Kyle Tucker RF | LAD

Dodgers' Kyle Tucker: Powers Dodgers in win

Tucker went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, two doubles, three total RBI and an additional run scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Reds.

Tucker got the Dodgers started early with a two-run shot off Brady Singer in the first inning for his 16th homer this season and his first of three extra-base hits in the victory. While it's been a tough year overall for Tucker, the outfielder seems to have turned a corner down the stretch -- he's now 12-for-29 (.414) with four homers and eight extra-base hits in his last eight games. Tucker has boosted his slash line to .232/.331/.387 across 593 plate appearances with 69 RBI, 85 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

  • Drew Gilbert CF | SF

Giants' Drew Gilbert: Cracks two-run shot in win

Gilbert went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Cardinals.

Gilbert pinch hit in the 10th inning and delivered as the leadoff hitter, launching a two-run homer to center field to give San Francisco a 6-4 lead. The 25-year-old outfielder has appeared in each of the Giants' last seven games, batting .286 with five runs scored, four RBI, two home runs and a stolen base in 16 plate appearances during that span. He figures to continue seeing regular opportunities for the injury-riddled Giants, who have already been eliminated from playoff contention.

  • Luis Lara RF | MIL

Brewers' Luis Lara: Gaining foothold in lineup

Lara will start in center field and bat second in Thursday's game against the Pirates.

Lara will stick in the starting nine for a fourth straight game and will cover center for the second day in a row while Garrett Mitchell (neck) remains banged up. Once Mitchell is back in action, Lara could end up seeing regular reps in right field over Sal Frelick, who has posted a lowly .506 OPS since returning from the injured list Aug. 25. During that same stretch, Lara is slashing .263/.317/.298 with one stolen base, nine runs and eight RBI over 17 games.

  • Andy Pages CF | LAD

Dodgers' Andy Pages: Will return during homestand

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Pages (hand) is "very likely" to be activated from the 10-day injured list during the team's Sept. 18-24 homestand, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Pages has been going through a swing progression as he works his way back from a fractured left hand, and he's nearing a return to the active roster. When Pages rejoins the Dodgers' lineup, he'll return to center field and push Tommy Edman back to second base.

  • Jake Mangum CF | PIT

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Receiving breather Thursday

Mangum is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.

After starting in each of the last six games while going 4-for-22 with a double, a walk and a stolen base, Mangum will get a break as the Pirates wrap up their series with the Brewers. Ronny Simon will replace Mangum in the starting nine, manning right field while batting seventh.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Out again Thursday

Mitchell (neck) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game in Pittsburgh.

Mitchell had to be scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to neck tightness, and he will rest some more during Thursday's series finale. Luis Lara will shift over to center field for the Brewers.

  • Carlos Jorge CF | CIN

Reds' Carlos Jorge: Sitting against lefty again

Jorge is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.

The left-handed-hitting Jorge will take a seat for the fifth time in six games, with all five of those absences coming against left-handed starting pitchers. Dane Myers will cover center field in place of Jorge, who has gone 2-for-19 with a 1:7 BB:K and one stolen base in eight games since being promoted from Triple-A Louisville on Sept. 4.
