For the season, the veteran outfielder is batting .251 with a .791 OPS, 22 homers, 64 RBI, 47 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples and one stolen base over 103 games.

McCarthy is batting .324 (12-for-37) over his last nine games, adding five extra-base hits and four steals in that span. Rays' Chandler Simpson: Approaching 40-steal mark
Simpson went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 8-6 loss to the Rangers.
Simpson logged his first steal of September in the seventh inning of this contest. He's been putting bat to ball fairly well lately, logging eight multi-hit efforts over his last 14 games. Jake Meyers CF | HOU
Astros' Jake Meyers: Sent down Sunday
The Astros optioned Meyers to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.
Meyers was brought up earlier in the week when rosters expanded, though he did not end up logging an at-bat during his latest stint in the majors. The 30-year-old outfielder loses his spot on the active roster to waiver acquisition Jorge Barrosa, and at this point, Meyers does not appear long for the 40-man roster.
-
Jorge Barrosa LF | HOU
Astros' Jorge Barrosa: Claimed by Astros
The Astros claimed Barrosa off waivers from the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Arizona booted Barrosa off its 40-man Friday, but he has found a new home with Houston and will join the big club right away with Jake Meyers optioned to Triple-A to clear a spot on the active roster. Barrosa is a switch hitter who can play all three outfield spots, but he has yet to show much offensively at the highest level (career .543 OPS).

Samad Taylor LF | SD
Padres' Samad Taylor: Retreating to bench with righty starting
Taylor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.
After he had been included in the lineup in each of the last four games while the Padres went up against four left-handed starters, the right-handed-hitting Taylor will head to the bench while the Yankees send righty Gerrit Cole to the bump. Taylor looks like he'll have to settle for the short side of a platoon in left field with Dustin Harris for the time being.

Lazaro Montes RF | SEA
Mariners' Lazaro Montes: Sitting again Sunday
Montes (hip) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
The 21-year-old Montes departed Friday's contest due to left hip soreness and is on the bench Sunday for a second consecutive game. He's guaranteed another day of rest since the Mariners have a team day off Monday. Dominic Canzone is manning right field for Seattle while Cal Raleigh rests his legs as the designated hitter.
-
Denzel Clarke CF | ATH
Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Not starting Sunday
Clarke is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
Clarke went 0-for-4 in Saturday's contest and will hit the bench Sunday for the third time in six games since coming off the injured list Tuesday. Henry Bolte will shift to center field while Carlos Cortes and Lawrence Butler start in left and right, respectively.

Jose Fermin LF | STL
Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Sitting in third straight game
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Fermin is on the bench for a third straight game and looks like he'll be ticketed for a short-side platoon role in the St. Louis infield. The Cardinals have been prioritizing Bryan Torres, Thomas Saggese and Nolan Gorman ahead of Fermin against right-handed pitching while all of Masyn Winn (thumb), JJ Wetherholt (wrist) and Blaze Jordan (ankle) are on the injured list.
