  • Bryan Torres LF | STL

Cardinals' Bryan Torres: Third straight start in leadoff spot

Torres will start at second base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Torres will set the table for the Cardinals for the fifth time in seven contests after going 3-for-9 with three walks, two runs and an RBI in his prior four starts. He appears primed to handle a strong-side platoon role for the Cardinals while three key infielders (JJ Wetherholt, Masyn Winn and Blaze Jordan) are all on the injured list.

  • Zac Veen LF | COL

Rockies' Zac Veen: Not in Sunday's lineup

Veen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Veen has gone 4-for-22 (.182 average) with 12 strikeouts in his past 14 contests and will take a seat Sunday for the fourth time in the past seven games. Jake McCarthy, Cole Carrigg and Troy Johnston will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday while Mickey Moniak serves as the designated hitter.

  • Evan Carter CF | TEX

Rangers' Evan Carter: Not starting against southpaw

Carter is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

The left-handed-hitting Carter will take a seat for the second time in the series while the Rays send another lefty starter (Ian Seymour) to the bump. Ezequiel Duran will spell Carter in center field and will bat leadoff.

  • Rays' Cedric Mullins: Taking seat against southpaw

Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

After starting in each of the last four games, the left-handed-hitting Mullins will retreat to the bench while southpaw MacKenzie Gore toes the rubber for the Rangers. Jonny DeLuca will spell Mullins in center field and will bat sixth.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Heading to bench with lefty starting

Trammell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Nelson Velazquez will enter the starting nine in place of the left-handed-hitting Trammell, who will hit the bench while southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez takes the hill for Arizona. Trammell had been included in the lineup in each of Houston's last five games, going 4-for-15 with three doubles, two walks, one stolen base and one run.

  • Trent Grisham CF | NYY

Yankees' Trent Grisham: Could be out for rest of regular season

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Grisham has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain and is without a definitive recovery timetable but "could be" out for the remainder of the regular season, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Grisham might have had a chance at returning from the injured list when first eligible Sept. 15 if he was tending to a Grade 1 strain, but the moderate-grade strain likely takes a minimum-length stay on the shelf off the table. While Grisham is out, Spencer Jones appears likely to shift over from a corner spot to serve as the Yankees' primary center fielder. Heliot Ramos and Jasson Dominguez should see more opportunities in the corner outfield as a result, though both will lose out on playing time once Aaron Judge (rib) returns from the IL, perhaps as soon as the upcoming week.

  • Myles Straw LF | TOR

Blue Jays' Myles Straw: Retreating to bench

Straw is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Straw will take a seat for the series finale, but he may have at least pushed his way into a timeshare in the outfield with Jesus Sanchez. The Blue Jays kept Sanchez on the bench for all but one of the previous seven games, while Straw was included in the lineup for the other six. The speedy outfielder is slashing .241/.309/.366 since the All-Star break, and while his .675 OPS during that span slightly trails Sanchez's .693 mark, Straw provides superior defense.

  • Ian Happ LF | CHC

Cubs' Ian Happ: Scratched with knee issue

Happ was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins due to left knee discomfort, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It's unclear when exactly the injury surfaced for Happ, who started the past four games and went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in Saturday's contest. Tyrone Taylor will instead start in left field in the series finale at Miami.

  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Out of starting nine

Waldschmidt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

The 23-year-old started the first two games of the series and will sit for Sunday's finale after going 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts. Jordan Lawlar will take Waldschmidt's place in center field while batting ninth.

  • Zach McKinstry RF | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Hitting bench vs. righty

McKinstry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Though the left-handed-hitting McKinstry had started in both of the previous two games when the Tigers went up against lefty starters, he'll wind up sitting Sunday against a right-hander (Gavin Williams). The Tigers will send McKinstry to the bench to open up a spot in right field for Ben Malgeri, who earned a chance to start against a righty after going 4-for-11 with a double, a walk, three RBI and a run scored over the first three contests of the series.
