  • Owen Caissie RF | MIA

Marlins' Owen Caissie: On bench versus lefty

Caissie is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

The Marlins will keep the left-handed-hitting Caissie on the bench for the second day in a row while the Nationals send another lefty (Will Dion) to the bump for the series finale. Esteury Ruiz will spell Caissie in right field and will bat eighth.

  • Cubs' Michael Conforto: Idle versus lefty

Conforto is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.

With southpaw Kyle Harrison toeing the slab for Milwaukee, the left-handed-hitting Conforto will head to the bench. Miguel Amaya will take over Conforto's spot as the Cubs' designated hitter and will bat eighth.

  • Padres' Dustin Harris: Playing regularly against righties

Harris will start in left field and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Reds.

Since being called up from Triple-A El Paso on Aug. 24, the left-handed-hitting Harris has been included in the lineup for five of the Padres' six matchups with righties. He's gone 6-for-12 with a double, a stolen base and three runs following his call-up and should hold down the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield while he's swinging a hot bat.

  • Corey Julks RF | DET

Tigers' Corey Julks: Dispatched to Toledo

The Tigers optioned Julks to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Julks was on the big-league roster for nearly three weeks but received only seven plate appearances, going 2-for-7 with a double. His spot on the active roster is being taken by John Peck.

  • Ian Happ LF | CHC

Cubs' Ian Happ: On bench Monday

Happ is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against Milwaukee.

Happ is batting just .157 with a 35.1 percent strikeout rate against left-handed pitchers this season, so the Cubs will keep him on the bench while southpaw Kyle Harrison takes the hill for the Brewers. He'll cede left field to Tyrone Taylor, who will bat out of the cleanup spot.

  • Rays' Victor Mesa: Slated for activation Tuesday

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Mesa (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mesa played five rehab games with Triple-A Durham, going 4-for-18 with a pair of home runs. The 24-year-old landed on the IL in mid-August with a strained left hamstring. Once back on the active roster, Mesa will likely be mixed and matched with Jonny DeLuca in right field.

  • James Wood RF | WAS

Nationals' James Wood: Likely needs one more rehab game

Wood (oblique) is expected to play in at least one more rehab game this week before returning from the 10-day injured list, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Wood kicked off a rehab assignment Sunday at Double-A Harrisburg, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run while playing six innings in left field. All of the Nationals' affiliates are off Monday, so Wood will presumably wait until Tuesday before playing in his next minor-league game. If Wood is able to get in a full nine innings Tuesday and if feels fine physically coming out of that contest, he could then be activated as soon as Wednesday. The All-Star outfielder has been on the shelf since Aug. 4 due to a left oblique strain.

  • Luis Rengifo LF | SD

Padres' Luis Rengifo: Done for '26 with ACL, MCL tear

Rengifo will miss the remainder of the season after he underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed a complete ACL tear and MCL sprain in his right knee, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Rengifo plans to meet with a team physician before deciding on a date for his knee surgery, but the 29-year-old is likely to remain out through at least the early part of the 2027 season as a result of the operation. After struggling to a .534 OPS over 57 games with Milwaukee to begin the season before he was released in late June, Rengifo found more success upon getting a change of scenery in San Diego. Before going down with the knee injury, Rengifo had settled in as a near-everyday player while serving in a utility role for the Padres, slashing .291/.375/.409 with four home runs, three stolen bases, 19 runs and 17 RBI across 145 plate appearances. Rengifo is set to become a free agent this winter, but given his success in a limited sample, the Padres could look to re-sign him on another short-term deal.

  • TJ Friedl CF | CIN

Reds' TJ Friedl: Another start against righty

Friedl will start in center field and bat eighth in Monday's contest versus the Padres.

Friedl has played sparingly in the second half, but his reps are trending up as he starts Monday for the third time over the Reds' last four games against right-handed pitching. With Friedl getting another look in center field, Dane Myers will begin the festivities on the bench.

  • Juan Soto LF | NYM

Mets' Juan Soto: Resting up Monday

Soto is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

Soto appears to be receiving a planned day of rest after he made his return from the injured list Saturday following a five-week absence due to a Grade 2 calf strain. He served as a designated hitter for the final two games of the Mets' weekend series with the Astros, going 2-for-7 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBI. The Mets reinstated Mark Vientos (hand) from the injured list Monday and will insert him in the lineup at DH in Soto's stead.
