The Lakers don't intend to re-sign Thomas after his 10-day contract expired Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Even with Rajon Rondo entering the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols Sunday to bring the Lakers' list of sidelined players back up to seven, the organization wasn't compelled to bring Thomas back on a second 10-day hardship exemption. The decision isn't overly surprising, given that the 32-year-old wasn't included in the rotation for Saturday's 122-115 loss to the Nets. Thomas played in each of the previous four games, averaging 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 three-pointers in 25.3 minutes per contest on 30.8/72.7/22.7 percent shooting splits from the field, free-throw line and three-point range, respectively. Despite Thomas' poor numbers with the Lakers, multiple teams are expected to have interest in bringing the veteran guard aboard, according to Charania.
