Patriots' Julian Edelman: Likely out Thursday

Edelman (foot) will likely be out for Thursday's preseason matchup against the Saints, Thomas Kane of Boston.com reports.

Edelman is dealing with a short-term injury after tweaking his surgically repaired left foot Tuesday, so the team has no reason to risk the health of their No. 1 receiver during the first preseason game. Other notable names not slated to play include quarterback Tom Brady (suspension) and tight end Rob Gronkowski.
