Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte has suffered a setback, and the Orioles are interested in Derek Lowe.
- Andy Pettitte has suffered a minor setback in his rehab, according to the New York Post’s George A. King III. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the setback will likely cost Pettitte about 10 days, but that he was already in the middle of the healing process. Pettitte believes he may have pushed himself too hard during his rehab, causing his leg to swell up. He’s been out since June 27.
- The Orioles might have interest in pitcher Derek Lowe, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Dan Connolly. Connolly spoke to one team official who said “it makes a whole lot of sense” for the team to target Lowe. Lowe’s personal pitching coach, Chris Correnti, is currently employed by the Orioles, and working in Sarasota. Lowe had been scheduled to meet with Correnti to work on his mechanics after the Indians released him.
- Carlos Marmol might be turning himself into a decent trade chip, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rogers. Marmol has performed well lately, converting all six of his save opportunities following the all-star break. Since he’s owed a significant amount of money, Marmol could pass through waivers, making him eligible to be dealt for an August trade. Rogers mentioned the Cardinals, Angels and Tigers as teams that could use bullpen help down the stretch.
