Al Alburquerque: Cut by Toronto
The Blue Jays released Alburquerque from his minor-league contract Monday.
The 32-year-old was in the midst of a strong campaign with Triple-A Buffalo, posting a 3.77 ERA and 8.5 K/9 through 28.2 innings. A veteran of 264 career appearances in the big leagues, Alburquerque shouldn't have much trouble latching on with another organization on a minor-league pact. Buffalo promoted Craig Breslow -- another reliever with extensive MLB experience -- from Double-A New Hampshire to take Alburquerque's spot on the roster.

Blue Jays' Al Alburquerque: Dropped to minor-league camp
Alburquerque was sent to minor-league camp Monday.
Alburquerque was fighting for a spot in Toronto's Opening Day bullpen after signing a minor-league deal in January. He had a solid spring, striking out 12 while walking just one in eight innings and recording a 3.38 ERA, but the Blue Jays ended up preferring other options. The 31-year-old has a 3.16 ERA in 245 career major-league innings and could find himself in a lower-leverage role in Toronto or elsewhere at some point later this season.

Blue Jays' Al Alburquerque: Headed to Toronto
Alburquerque signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Alburquerque began his 2017 season with the Royals, where he tossed 10 innings before his eventual release in July. He then caught on with the White Sox -- he was called up to the majors in September and contributed eight innings. Alburquerque had respectable numbers with the Chicago farm system over a larger sample size, so the right-handed reliever was expected to eventually find work. He'll land in Toronto with his sights set on making the final roster.

Al Alburquerque: Non-tendered by White Sox
The White Sox declined to tender Alburquerque a contract for 2018, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Alburquerque allowed just one run on three hits in eight innings with the White Sox as a September callup, and his numbers over a larger body of work at Triple-A were solid as well (2.87 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 43:10 K:BB). It's unlikely that Alburquerque will find his way into a prominent major-league role next season, but he should at least find work.

White Sox's Al Alburquerque: Promoted to majors
Alburquerque was called up by the White Sox on Friday.
Alburquerque will join the 40-man roster, along with Chris Volstad, prior to Friday's game with the Giants, putting the White Sox at full capacity. After signing a minor-league deal with the club in early August, the right-hander has compiled a 4.91 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over the course of 11 innings for Triple-A Charlotte. Alburquerque figures to be deployed in low-leverage situations out of Chicago's bullpen moving forward.

White Sox's Al Alburquerque: Joins White Sox on minors deal
Alburquerque signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Friday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
Less than a week after being released by the Royals, Alburquerque has found a new home in the White Sox's organization. He will report to Triple-A Charlotte. Once considered a potential future closer during his time with Detroit, Alburquerque has been quite good at the Triple-A level this year, and it's possible he will get a chance with the big-league club later this season.

This move comes just five days after the club designated Alburquerque for assignment. The 31-year-old provided a steady presence out of the bullpen for Kansas City this season, posting a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, but the team decided to go in another direction and made deals to acquire more relief depth for a playoff chase.

The Royals made a flurry of moves Monday, topped off by a trade to acquire Brandon Maurer and Ryan Buchter from the Padres, so Alburquerque was no longer needed in the big leagues. Now 31, the right-hander performed reasonably decently during his time in Kansas City, notching a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 10 innings, but he'll have to bide his time in Triple-A if he clears waivers.

Royals' Al Alburquerque: Has contract selected Monday
Alburquerque was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Albuequerque is back up with the big club for a second time this season after being dropped from the 40-man earlier in the year. He owns a 6.75 ERA and 6:3 K:BB through four major-league innings this season. In order to clear room on the roster, Eric Skoglund was sent to Triple-A and Matt Strahm was transferred to the 60-day DL.

Royals' Al Alburquerque: Sent outright to Triple-A
Alburquerque cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old was designated for assignment on May 21 following five poor appearances out of the big-league bullpen, and it seems like those rough outings were enough to deter any suitors from plucking him off waivers. Alburquerque will now move into an organizational depth role for the Royals.

Alburquerque was designated for assignment Sunday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Alburquerque was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on May 10 but was ineffective in five relief appearances following his promotion. The 30-year-old allowed three earned runs on two hits and three walks over four innings of relief. Alburquerque has seven years of major-league experience, so there's a decent chance that he'll be claimed by another big-league club. If not, he'll be assigned back to Triple-A Omaha.

Alburquerque notched 34 holds for the Tigers from 2013-15, but he stumbled through the minor leagues last season. He's made it back under the MLB lights, but his low-leverage role in the team's bullpen offers little fantasy appeal.

Alburquerque has been throwing well at Omaha this season. He's pitched in 11 games (13.2 innings) and posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in that time. In his major-league career, he's thrown 227 innings over 243 games, compiling a 3.21 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.
