Rhiner Cruz: Hits free agency
Cruz (groin) elected to become a free agent Friday.
Rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Buffalo, Cruz elected to hit the open market after passing through waivers untouched. The veteran right-hander returned to the majors for the first time since 2013 last season, though he made just two appearances before suffering a season-ending groin injury. He figures to serve as organizational bullpen depth wherever he lands this offseason.

Blue Jays' Rhiner Cruz: Moved to 60-day DL
Cruz (groin) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Saturday, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.
This move takes Cruz out of the picture until early September. Cruz returned to the majors this season for the first time since 2013 but strained his groin after just a couple appearances. Chris Rowley took his spot on the 40-man roster.

Blue Jays' Rhiner Cruz: Hits DL with groin strain
Cruz was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with a right groin strain.
Cruz may have suffered the injury at some point during his appearance in Saturday's 8-5 loss to the Yankees, when he covered 1.1 innings and gave up a run on two hits and two walks. The Blue Jays recalled Tim Mayza from Triple-A Buffalo to provide an extra relief arm in Cruz's stead.

Blue Jays' Rhiner Cruz: Recalled from minors
Cruz had his contract purchased from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.
Cruz has impressed over six appearances with Buffalo this season, logging a 1.04 ERA and nine strikeouts across 8.2 innings of relief. The 31-year-old last pitched in a major-league game with Houston in 2013, after which he spent some time playing in Japan and Mexico.

Blue Jays' Rhiner Cruz: Agrees to NRI deal with Blue Jays
Cruz signed a minor-league contract with Toronto on Thursday which includes an invitation to spring training, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The right-hander spent all of last season pitching at Triple-A Gwinnett within Atlanta's system, accumulating a 2.84 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with a 63:24 K:BB over 50.2 innings of relief. He will likely begin this upcoming campaign back at the Triple-A level but should provide added organizational depth for Toronto's bullpen.

Braves' Rhiner Cruz: Heads to minors
Cruz was reassigned to minor league camp Wednesday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The 30-year-old pitched well enough during his brief stint in big league camp, as he struck out two batters over three scoreless innings. However, it seems there was simply no room for him on the roster. Cruz will likely head to Triple-A and attempt to pitch his way back onto the major league roster after being away from the U.S. for the past two years.

Braves' Rhiner Cruz: Returns to US on NRI deal with Braves
Cruz signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
The 30-year-old righty spent 2016 in Mexico, although he had little success in his limited appearances out of the bullpen. Cruz did fan nine batters during his seven-inning stint in the league, but his lack of control and propensity to give up home runs will likely keep him in an organizational depth role.
