Tigers' Melvin Mercedes: Signs minor league contract
Mercedes signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Wednesday.
Mercedes made one appearance with the Tigers in 2014, but spent 2015 between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. While he was excellent in Double-A, holding a 2.73 ERA in 26.1 innings, but struggled in 22 appearances in Triple-A with a 6.68 ERA in 33.2 innings. The 25-year-old doesn't strike out a ton of batters, nor does he keep runners off the base paths, but he's a good depth piece in the team's minor league system.
