Astros' Niko Goodrum: Managing left hamstring discomfort
The Astros announced Thursday that Goodrum has been dealing with left hamstring discomfort, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Although Goodrum isn't on the injured list, he hasn't appeared in a game at Triple-A Sugar Land since June 1. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to action.... See More ... See Less
Astros' Niko Goodrum: Optioned to Triple-A

Astros' Niko Goodrum: Walks, swipes bag
Goodrum went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in a 5-0 win Thursday in Minnesota.
Goodrum started at first base and hit seventh while starting for only the third time in May. It was his first stolen base this season and only the second time he's reached via a walk. The 30-year-old struck out twice and has fanned in twenty of 41 plate appearances on the season while sporting a ghastly .128/.171/.179 batting line. Since the beginning of the 2020 season, he has struggled mightily at the plate with a .197 average and 35.9 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less
Astros' Niko Goodrum: Enters in fifth inning
Goodrum went 0-for-2 with a strikeout Wednesday against the Mariners.
Goodrum entered the game in the fifth inning after Jose Altuve (groin) was forced to exit. If Altuve is headed for another stint on the injured list -- he was activated Monday after dealing with a hamstring injury -- Goodrum would be a potential beneficiary along with Aledmys Diaz, who started at shortstop Wednesday.... Astros' Niko Goodrum: Drives in first run
Goodrum went 2-for-3 with an RBI double on Sunday against Toronto.
Goodrum has started just five of 11 games since Jose Altuve (hamstring) has been sidelined. He's collected only three hits across 19 plate appearances since, while striking out at a 47.4 percent clip. Goodrum did deliver an RBI double -- his first run driven in of the season -- in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2, though he will likely see his role shrink further as Altuve is expected to be activated from the injured list Monday.... Astros' Niko Goodrum: Headed for more opportunities
Goodrum is likely to see additional starts at second base with Jose Altuve (hamstring) on the injured list, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Goodrum has had a sporadic role to begin the season, starting only four times in 12 games. Only one of those starts came at second base, though Goodrum could be the primary player at the keystone in Altuve's absence, particularly if the team prefers to keep Aledmys Diaz in a utility role. It's unclear how effective Goodrum would be with more playing time, however, as he hit just .214/.292/.359 across 325 plate appearances with Detroit in 2021.... See More ... See Less
Astros' Niko Goodrum: Playing time hard to come by
Goodrum remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
After handling a near-everyday role when healthy with Detroit for the better part of the past four seasons, Goodrum has predictably had a tougher time earning at-bats for a Houston club that boasts more position-player talent. Even though Goodrum is able to play all four infield spots and in the outfield, the Astros haven't made much use of his versatility. He's appeared in five of Houston's first nine games and has made three total starts at either first base or designated hitter.... See More ... See Less
Astros' Niko Goodrum: Lands in Houston
Goodrum signed a one-year, $2.1 million deal with the Astros on Saturday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Goodrum's career .230/.303/.396 slash line suggests he was miscast as a starter during his time with the Tigers, but his ability to play a decent shortstop as well as cover every other position on the diamond makes him a fine fit in a bench role. If he finds his way to unexpected playing time, he'll get a boost from being surrounded by a strong lineup and would offer fantasy teams a bit of speed, but he's unlikely to be of much help at the plate.... Niko Goodrum: Parts ways with Detroit
Goodrum was outrighted off the Tigers' 40-man roster and elected free agency Friday after clearing waivers.
Goodrum posted a .745 OPS across 2018 and 2019 for the Tigers, but he had a .632 OPS over the past two seasons, leading the team to remove him from the 40-man roster. The versatile 29-year-old is now on the open market but may need to settle for a minor-league deal during the offseason.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Goes yard twice
Goodrum went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four total RBI in Thursday's win over Minnesota.
Goodrum hadn't gone yard in nine straight games before blasting two bombs in this one, and he has nine homers on the season. He recorded three of those in the last month alone, but his overall results haven't been very encouraging -- he only hit .194 across 23 games during September while striking out in 23.8 percent of his at-bats.... Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Effective Monday
Goodrum went 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the White Sox.
Goodrum collected his second triple of the season and snapped out of a mini 1-for-10 slump he was in over his last three games. It's mostly been a struggle for the versatile 29-year-old this year, as he's slashing just .211/.291/.338 after Monday's contest. Goodrum looked decent for the Tigers in 2018 and 2019 with an OPS above .740 both years, along with a combined 28 home runs and 24 stolen bases, but he's been unable to match that level of production the last two seasons.... Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Not in lineup
Goodrum will sit Saturday against the Royals.

Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Notches stolen base Sunday
Goodrum went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Rays.
Goodrum reached base his only time of the day in the ninth inning after drawing a walk and then ended up stealing his 13th bag of the year and his first since June 17. It was one of the few times Goodrum has gotten on base as of late. He's slashing .146/.226/.271 with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and 5:13 BB:K over his last 16 games yet remains slotted in as the team's everyday shortstop.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Goes deep in loss
Goodrum went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Rays.
The Tigers only scored two runs, with both coming on solo shots. Goodrum now has seven long balls in what's been a disappointing season. The versatile 29-year-old has just a .635 OPS and has only appeared in 78 games due to a handful of injuries. He'll look to at least finish the season strong and build some momentum heading into 2022.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Resting Wednesday
Goodrum is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Goodrum gets a breather for the day game after he started at shortstop in each of the Tigers' last four contests. He went 1-for-15 over that stretch, and Goodrum is now slashing a lowly .118/.211/.176 in 12 games since returning from the injured list Sept. 1. Harold Castro checks in for Goodrum in the Detroit infield.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Niko Goodrum: Sitting in series finale
Goodrum is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Goodrum will cede shortstop duties to Harold Castro in the series finale after starting each of the Tigers' past three games at the position. Since returning from the injured list Sept. 1, Goodrum has struggled to establish a rhythm at the plate. In his first seven games back in action, Goodrum has gone 3-for-18 (.167 average) with a 3:4 BB:K.... See More ... See Less
