  • Giants' Luis Alexander Basabe: Reinstated from minor-league IL

The Giants assigned Basabe (wrist) to Double-A Richmond on Wednesday after he concluded his rehab assignment with the team's rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate. The outfielder has gone 2-for-9 with a home run and two RBI through his first two games with Richmond.

Basabe was sidelined for nearly four months with a sprained left wrist before he began a rehab assignment in the ACL on July 2. Though Basabe was initially expected to report to Triple-A Sacramento coming out of spring training, the wrist injury prompted the Giants to keep him at Richmond once his rehab assignment concluded. He could move up to Triple-A in short order with a few good performances at Double-A.

  • Giants' Luis Alexander Basabe: Begins rehab in ACL

Basabe (wrist) has gone 4-for-10 with a double and two walks through the first five games of his rehab assignment with the Giants' Arizona Complex League affiliate, which he began July 2.

Basabe was assigned to the Giants' minor-league camp in mid-March after he sustained a significant wrist sprain that ended his long-shot bid for a reserve outfield spot on San Francisco's Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old is eventually expected to settle at Triple-A Sacramento once he gets a clean bill of health, but the Giants will first let him build up in the lower levels of the minors as he looks to make up for the lost time.

  • Giants' Luis Alexander Basabe: Sent to minor-league camp

The Giants assigned Basabe (wrist) to their minor-league camp Monday.

Basabe was ruled out for 6-to-8 weeks after suffering a significant left wrist sprain in a March 9 Cactus League game against the Brewers, so the Giants' decision to include him in this round of roster cuts hardly comes as a surprise. He'll look to get back to full health in advance of the Triple-A season, which begins in May.

Basabe (wrist) is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Basabe was diagnosed with a left wrist muscle sprain after leaving Tuesday's spring game against the Brewers, and he'll have a lengthy recovery process before he's cleared to return. Once he's healthy, the 24-year-old will likely head to the minors.

Basabe exited Tuesday's spring game against the Brewers after suffering an injury while diving for a line drive. A timetable for his return isn't yet known, but he'll likely require less time to recover than he would have if he would have been diagnosed with a fracture. Basabe (hamstring) will be available off the bench Monday in the Giants' Cactus League game against the Rangers, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Basabe looks to be healthy heading into 2021 after he was placed on the Giants' injured list last September due to a right hamstring strain. He'll be active for the second straight day after serving as a backup center fielder in Sunday's Cactus League opener against the Angels. He struck out in his lone plate appearance in that contest.

Basabe (hamstring) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Basabe was designated for assignment by the Giants last week, and he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. After making his major-league debut in 2020, the 24-year-old should compete for a spot in the big leagues once again in 2021.

Basabe left Tuesday's game against the Rockies with an apparently leg injury, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The 24-year-old hit a grounder in his first at-bat Tuesday and appeared to tweak something as he was thrown out at first base. Brandon Crawford entered the game at shortstop while Daniel Robertson shifted to the outfield. Basabe should be considered day-to-day until more is known on the injury.

Basabe made his MLB debut in the second half of last Thursday's doubleheader with the Dodgers, entering the contest as a pinch runner but making no plate appearances. • Giants' Luis Alexander Basabe: Acquired by San Fran

Basabe was acquired by the Giants from the White Sox on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations.

The 23-year-old was designated for assignment by Chicago on Tuesday, but he'll now receive a chance on San Francisco's 40-man roster. Basabe was ranked among the White Sox's top-20 prospects and should garner a similar ranking with his new team. He had a .246/.324/.336 slash line in 69 games last season at Double-A and will report to the Giants' alternate training site.

  • White Sox's Luis Alexander Basabe: Designated for assignment

Basabe was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Tuesday.

The move creates a spot on the 40-man roster for the White Sox to select Brady Lail's contract. The 23-year-old outfielder is at least a moderately interesting prospect and could generate interest on the waiver wire, though his profile is considerably less impressive to teams that don't think he can stick in center field, something that appears questionable despite his speed. He posted an unimpressive .246/.324/.336 slash line in 69 games for Double-A Birmingham last season.

  • White Sox's Luis Alexander Basabe: Suffers bruised foot

Basabe suffered a bruised right foot in camp, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It's unclear exactly when or how Basabe suffered the injury, but he's considered day-to-day as he recovers, and Luis Gonzalez was brought up from the team's alternate camp to take his place in his absence. Basabe was no lock to make the major-league roster, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the team use extra caution in the coming days to protect his long-term health.

  • White Sox's Luis Alexander Basabe: Included in player pool

The White Sox announced Monday that Basabe will be included as part of the team's 60-man roster pool.

Though Basabe will join the big club when it resumes workouts Friday, he's unlikely to see more than a handful of at-bats with the White Sox in 2020, assuming the team's outfield stays reasonably healthy. The 23-year-old switch hitter struggled during a repeat season at Double-A Birmingham in 2019, batting .246 with three home runs and nine steals over 291 plate appearances.
