White Sox's Luis Castillo: Poor showing in bulk relief
Castillo allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings of relief in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Saturday.
Castillo handled the largest workload for the White Sox in this game, but it amounted to a bullpen game in the end. Castillo has allowed at least three runs in each of his last five appearances, giving up 21 runs (20 earned) over 18 innings in that span. He's at a 5.67 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 111:43 K:BB through 128.2 innings over 27 games (23 starts) this season. It's not yet clear if he'll start or work out of the bullpen in his next outing, which is projected to be at home versus the Tigers.

White Sox's Luis Castillo: Set for bulk-relief outing
Castillo is slated to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Sean Newcomb during Saturday's game against the Cardinals, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The top of the St. Louis lineup typically features two left-handed hitters (Bryan Torres and Alec Burleson) against right-handed pitchers, so the White Sox will have the left-handed Newcomb work the first inning or two in order for Castillo to draw some more favorable matchups when he eventually enters the game. Castillo will be pitching in relief for the first time since being acquired by the White Sox at the trade deadline, with the role change coming after he logged a 7.52 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 26.1 innings through his first six starts with the club.

White Sox's Luis Castillo: Falls to Houston
Castillo (4-11) took the loss Thursday against the Astros, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.
It was another rough outing for Castillo, who gave up a two-run homer to Jose Altuve in the first inning before the Astros put up a four spot in the third. Castillo's failed to get through five frames in any of his last four starts -- he's given up 17 earned runs on 30 hits in just 15.1 innings during that span. The 33-year-old's ERA is up to 5.57 across 126 innings between the White Sox and Mariners this season. He's tentatively lined up to face the Pirates at home his next time out.

Castillo gave up multiple homers for a third consecutive start, and he's also failed to complete five innings in any of those outings. He's made five starts since joining the White Sox at the trade deadline, and the numbers have been less than impressive -- he owns a 6.45 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 2.8 HR/9 across 22.1 innings over that stretch. White Sox's Luis Castillo: Dominant in win over Reds
Castillo (4-9) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings to earn the win over the Reds on Wednesday.
Castillo stumbled with five runs allowed over four innings against the Red Sox in his White Sox debut, but he took advantage of a more favorable matchup in his second start with his new team. The 10 strikeouts were easily a season high for the veteran right-hander. His two longest starts of the year have come against the Reds -- he also tossed seven innings against them in his penultimate start as a Mariner. For the year, Castillo is sporting a 4.96 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 101:35 K:BB through 110.2 innings over 22 games (19 starts). He's lined up to make his next start on the north side of Chicago against the Cubs next week.

After holding Boston hitless through his first two innings, Castillo gave up a two-run homer to Connor Wong in the third before surrendering three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. It's certainly wasn't the ideal White Sox debut for Castillo, who struggled to a 6.35 ERA across 17 innings in his final three starts with the Mariners before being shipped east at the trade deadline. Through 103.2 innings this year, his ERA sits at 5.30 -- he hasn't finished a season with an ERA above 4.00 since 2018, his first full year in the majors. Castillo will look to turn things around his next time out, tentatively lined up to come at home against the Reds, the team he began his career with in 2017.
