Narvaez is starting behind the plate and batting ninth Tuesday against the Yankees, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
After recently finding himself on the bench for three straight contests, Narvaez returned to the starting nine the past two days and went 3-for-6 with a walk, two doubles and a stolen base to earn a third consecutive start Tuesday. Connor Wong has still been much better offensively with an .885 OPS in 27 plate appearances, but it appears Narvaez has reasserted his position for the starting job.

Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Sparks offense in win
Narvaez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 8-6 win over the Tigers.
Narvaez provided a spark in the sixth inning, when he doubled, stole third base and scored a game-tying run. Detroit reliever Brant Hurter wasn't holding Narvaez on, and the slow-footed catcher took advantage, swiping the second bag of his career. The Red Sox went on to score five runs over the next two innings and held on for the win. Narvaez, who made a second straight start following a three-game stretch on the bench, is battling to maintain his spot as the team's primary catcher. Prior to his three-game stay in the dugout, Narvaez was batting just .195, and Connor Wong (.333) was threatening to move up the depth chart.

Wong is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.
After a stretch of three consecutive starts behind the plate, Wong will end up ceding catching duties to Carlos Narvaez for the second day in a row. With an .885 OPS compared to Narvaez's .449 mark on the season, Wong has been the far more productive hitter of the two, so the Red Sox could still view him as Option 1A at catcher for the time being.

Though he'll give way to Carlos Narvaez behind the dish Sunday, Wong may have supplanted the former atop the Red Sox's catching depth chart. Wong started each of the previous three games and owns an .885 OPS for the season, more than doubling up Narvaez's mark (.409). At least while he's dramatically outperforming Narvaez at the dish, Wong could be in line for the lion's share of the starts.

Instead, manager Alex Cora hinted that Narvaez's absence might be a matter of discipline, as the skipper noted that he would keep the reason as to why Narvaez was scratched between himself and the catcher. After undergoing surgery in October to repair the meniscus in his left knee, Narvaez enjoyed a healthy spring training and had recorded four hits in nine at-bats through his first three games of the season.

According to manager Alex Cora, Narvaez's knee was a problem throughout the entire 2025 season. Narvaez was able to avoid the injured list and remained an excellent defensive backstop, but the injury helps explain his offensive downturn in the second half, when he posted a .187/.233/.387 slash line. Following a left knee meniscectomy in October, Narvaez will slot back in as the No. 1 catcher for the Red Sox ahead of Connor Wong.

Narvaez underwent a successful left knee meniscectomy Wednesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Narvaez played through a meniscus injury in his knee for much of the second half of the regular season and the playoffs before having a cleanup procedure Wednesday. He is expected to be fully recovered before spring training and should enter the 2026 season as Boston's top catcher after slashing .241/.306/.419 with 15 home runs in 118 contests.
