  • Marlins' Payton Henry: Contract selected, starting Friday

Henry had his contract selected by the Marlins and is starting behind the plate Friday against the Pirates, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Henry was acquired from the Brewers in exchange for John Curtiss at the trade deadline, and he'll make his MLB debut Friday for Miami. The 24-year-old hit well at Double-A to open the season, but he has a sub-.700 OPS in 41 games since being promoted to the Triple-A level. He'll receive a look in the majors with Jorge Alfaro (calf) heading to the injured list.

  • Marlins' Payton Henry: Shipped to Miami

Henry was traded from the Brewers to the Marlins on Friday in exchange for John Curtiss, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

A 24-year-old catcher, Henry was better than league average as a hitter at Low-A, High-A and Double-A, earning a promotion to Triple-A earlier this season. He slashed .315/.392/.405 at Double-A and posted a .262/.338/.361 line at Triple-A prior to this trade. His on-base skills and power potential are the top traits on his scouting report.

  • Brewers' Payton Henry: Nabs spot in roster pool

The Brewers added Henry to their 60-man roster pool Monday.

Henry will claim the spot in the 60-man pool that opened up after Logan Morrison elected free agency last week when the Brewers outrighted him off the 40-man roster. The 23-year-old backstop has yet to see any action above the High-A level, so he likely won't be in store for a promotion to the big club in 2020 unless the Brewers are without multiple catchers at some point.

  • Brewers' Payton Henry: Sent to minors

Henry was reassigned to minor league camp by the Brewers on Tuesday.

Henry got a chance to get his feet wet with the big-league club this spring, but he was always destined to open the season in the minors. Henry spent all of last season with High-A Carolina and posted a .711 OPS, so it remains to be seen if he will head back there or get his first shot at the Double-A level to kick off the 2020 campaign.

  • Brewers' Payton Henry: Playing in spring games

Henry has appeared in four games with the Brewers this spring and is 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk.

Henry's 2019 campaign was cut short by a knee injury, but that is no longer a concern. While Henry has seen some action with the big club this spring, he still has a few levels to go before he's considered for a spot on the major-league roster.

  • Brewers' Payton Henry: Dealing with sprained MCL

Henry is dealing with a sprained left MCL, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Henry won't be able to play in the Arizona Fall League as a result, though the issue won't require surgery. In his first season with High-A Carolina, the backstop compiled a .242/.315/.395 slash line and 14 home runs in 121 games.

  • Brewers' Payton Henry: Swinging hot bat

Henry is hitting .330/.374/.538 with three home runs, 16 RBI and a 7:25 BB:K ratio in 99 plate appearances through 24 games with Low-A Wisconsin this season.

Henry is playing full-season ball for the first time this year. After hitting .161 through his first eight games, he figured things out quickly, piling up 25 hits -- seven for extra bases -- over his next 16 games to reach his current averages. Henry has benefited from a bloated .422 BABIP, but his numbers speak for themselves. If he keeps producing, Henry -- who will turn 21 in June -- might not find himself at the Low-A level for long.
