• Braves' Eli White: Could be headed for bigger role

  White appears to be the top internal candidate to replace Jurickson Profar (suspension) as a platoon partner for Mike Yastrzemski in left field, Gabriel Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. With Profar set to be suspended for the entire 2026 season, pending an appeal, Atlanta is left scrambling to replace his at-bats. White has a .248/.305/.440 slash line over the last three seasons against left-handed pitching and offers a strong defensive profile, so he represents a solid floor option if the club doesn't look outside the organization for reinforcements. Utility player Mauricio Dubon could also push White for that role later in the season, but he'll be needed at shortstop initially with Ha-Seong Kim (finger) likely out until May.

• Braves' Eli White: Avoids arbitration with Atlanta

  Atlanta and White avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Friday. White will get a little raise in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The speedy outfielder slashed .234/.270/.406 with 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases over 105 games with the big club in 2025. The right-handed-hitting White had a .736 OPS versus left-handed pitching this past season and could see some starts versus southpaws in 2026.

  White went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Cubs. White launched his eighth homer of the year and his first since Aug. 5 versus Milwaukee. Barring an injury to any of Atlanta's key players, the 31-year-old utility man should continue to play a part-time role to close out the campaign. For the season, White is batting a poor .233 with eight doubles, three triples, 31 RBI, 39 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 240 at-bats (95 games).

He was the only Atlanta hitter to figure out Milwaukee pitching on the night, taking Freddy Peralta deep for a solo shot in the fourth inning and drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. White has gone yard three times in the last three games, and in seven contests since Ronald Acuna (calf) went down, the 31-year-old bench player is batting .296 (8-for-27) with nine RBI.

The 31-year-old was the star of the contest, powering Atlanta's offense with a three-run homer in the second inning and a solo shot in the seventh, with the second blast bouncing off the track at Bristol Motor Speedway. White has started four straight games in right field while filling in for Ronald Acuna (calf), and since replacing the All-Star during Tuesday's contest, he's gone 6-for-19 (.316) with four runs and seven RBI in addition to Sunday's long balls.

• Braves' Eli White: Set to replace injured Acuna in RF

  Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said after Tuesday's 9-6 loss to the Royals that White will take over as the team's primary right fielder after Ronald Acuna exited the contest with right Achilles inflammation, Avery Osen of the Associated Press reports. Though Acuna appears to have avoided a rupture of his Achilles tendon, he's still likely to miss more than the minimum 10 days after Atlanta officially placed him on the injured list Wednesday. Atlanta recalled Jarred Kelenic from Triple-A Gwinnett to provide another option in the outfield while Acuna is out, but given Kelenic's tepid production in the big leagues and minors this season, White should be first in line to fill in for the star right fielder. White has proven serviceable when given meaningful playing time with Atlanta this season; he'll head into Wednesday's series finale in Kansas City having maintained a .255/.297/.391 slash line to go with four home runs and seven stolen bases over 196 plate appearances.

This was White's first homer since June 9 versus the Brewers, and his first hit of any kind since June 27 versus the Phillies. He sees most of his time against left-handed pitchers, but he's been unable to carve out even a firm short-side platoon role in Atlanta's outfield -- he was only in the lineup Tuesday because Ronald Acuna (back) was scratched just before the game. White is batting .242 with a .664 OPS, four homers, 17 RBI, 27 runs scored and five stolen bases over 189 plate appearances this season.

White's actually had slightly better numbers against right-handed pitching so far this season, posting an .814 OPS in 87 plate appearances in that split versus Verdugo's .760 OPS in 100 PAs, but manager Brian Snitker will go with a conventional platoon for now between the two. How the duo performs will likely determine how long the arrangement lasts, and White wasn't doing himself any favors by batting .225 (9-for-40) with a 1:10 BB:K in his last 10 games before Acuna's activation from the IL on Friday.

After holding down an everyday spot in the lineup for the past month, White looks set to receive little more than the occasional start moving forward after star right fielder Ronald Acuna completed his recovery from ACL surgery and returned to the lineup Friday. Acuna will start his third straight game Sunday to close out the weekend, and White has now been on the bench for each of those contests. The 30-year-old was able to provide a modicum of fantasy value during his stretch of 26 consecutive starts from April 23 through Thursday, slashing .280/.314/.460 with two home runs, four stolen bases, 13 RBI and 17 runs.

Over 18 contests this season, White is batting .267 with two homers, seven RBI, nine runs scored and a stolen base across 33 plate appearances. He's never held a starting role for a full season, and that seems unlikely to change with Ronald Acuna (knee) likely rejoining the mix at some point in the coming weeks.
