Gavin Collins: Granted release
The Rays released Collins on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Collins asked to be cut loose, and that request was granted. The 27-year-old catcher and corner infielder had signed a minor-league contract with Tampa Bay back in January and spent most of the spring on the major-league side of camp. He's yet to appear in an actual game at the MLB level.

Rays' Gavin Collins: Signs NRI deal with Rays
Collins agreed Wednesday with the Rays on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Collins spent the 2022 campaign in the Guardians organization, and he posted a slash line of .235/.326/.370 with four homers over 139 plate appearances with Triple-A Columbus. He'll battle for a backup role with Tampa Bay, but he's likely ticketed for the minors to begin the 2023 season.

Indians' Gavin Collins: Returns to action
Collins (neck) was activated off the minor-league injured list at High-A Lynchburg on Friday.
Collins landed on the IL two weeks ago with the neck strain but is ready to rejoin the Hillcats. The 23-year-old will look to continue his solid start to the season after slashing .288/.356/.442 through 15 games prior to the IL stint.
