White Sox's Franklin German: Sent to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned German to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
Chicago acquired German from Boston in February in a deal that sent Theo Denlinger to the Red Sox. The right-hander stands a good chance of making appearances with the White Sox this summer, but he'll open the 2023 campaign in the International League.... See More ... See Less
White Sox's Franklin German: Traded to ChiSox
German was traded to the White Sox from the Red Sox on Friday in exchange for Theo Denlinger.
After being designated for assignment Monday to make room on Boston's roster for Richard Bleier, German will now attempt to carve out a role for himself in Chicago's bullpen. The 25-year-old righty cracked the majors for the first time last season, though he allowed eight earned runs over just four innings of work. German will more than likely begin the season in Triple-A again, where he put up a 2.58 ERA and 0.94 WHIP through 38.1 frames in 2022.... See More ... See Less
Red Sox's Franklin German: Designated for assignment
German was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Monday.
It clears room on the 40-man roster for Richard Bleier after Bleier was acquired from Miami in the Matt Barnes trade. The right-hander allowed eight runs in four appearances with Boston in the 2022 campaign with a 4:4 K:BB over his four innings of work, but did pitch well with Triple-A Worcester in the second half of the season. There could be interest in German on the waiver wire.... See More ... See Less
Red Sox's Franklin German: Rough debut
German allowed four runs on two hits and two walks without retiring a batter in Saturday's 9-0 loss to the Royals.
German, whose contract was selected and who was making his MLB debut, had been scheduled to pitch a full inning, per Ian Browne of MLB.com, but those plans were scrapped quickly. The Royals went walk, single, walk, single against the 24-year-old right-hander. Boston manager Alex Cora made note that Kansas City hitters didn't offer at German's secondary pitches, describing them as "away or non-competitive," so the staff will take a look at that and attempt to figure out how to make him better.... Red Sox's Frank German: Called up by Red Sox
German's contract will be selected from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
German was dealt from the Yankees to the Red Sox in January of 2021 and struggled at Double-A Portland during the 2021 campaign. However, he's posted a 2.72 ERA, 64:19 K:BB and 0.91 WHIP in 49.2 innings over 43 appearances between the Double-A and Triple-A clubs this year. He'll have the chance to make his major-league debut late in 2022.... See More ... See Less
Red Sox's Frank German: Traded to Red Sox
German was sent from the Yankees to the Red Sox along with Adam Ottavino on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
German appears to be the sweetener to get the Red Sox to take on the money left on Ottavino's contract. German is at least a back-end starter prospect, possessing a fastball that can touch 98 mph but shaky command. It's possible such a profile winds up working out better in relief. The 23-year-old righty has so far topped out at High-A, where he produced a 3.79 ERA, a 25.3 percent strikeout rate and a 10.8 percent walk rate in 2019.... See More ... See Less
