Casey Janssen: Released by Red Sox
Janssen was released by the Red Sox on Sunday, Mark Polishuk of MLBTradeRumors.com reports.
Janssen exercised his right to opt out of his minor league deal with Boston, and will look to join a major league roster somewhere else. He has not yet appeared in the majors this season, but has pitched decently in the minors, posting a 2.87 ERA over 15.2 innings combined at the Low-A and Triple-A levels.

Red Sox's Casey Janssen: At Triple-A level
Janssen has moved up to Triple-A Pawtucket, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
The 34-year-old major league veteran has appeared in five games for the PawSox, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks in 6.2 innings. Janssen could be part of the team's September call-ups as a bullpen depth option.

Janssen has allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six in six innings for short-season Lowell.
The plan for the 34-year-old veteran is to eventually move on to Triple-A Pawtucket, putting Janssen in a position to help the major league team in the second half of the season.

Red Sox's Casey Janssen: Inks minor league deal with Red Sox
Janssen signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Janssen will first report to Short-Season Lowell before joining the team's Triple-A Pawtucket affiliate. A former closer, Janssen last pitched in the majors in 2015 with the Nationals and was granted his release from the Padres after spring training this season. If all goes well in his minor league appearances, the veteran reliever could join the Red Sox's bullpen down the road.

Padres' Casey Janssen: Granted his release
Janssen was granted his release from the Padres on Thursday.
A non-roster invitee to training camp, Janssen posted a 3.00 ERA and 3:0 K:BB over six innings of Cactus League work this spring. He posted sub-2.60 ERAs each year from 2011 to 2013, but the 34-year-old righty declined in a major way the past two seasons, with last year's shoulder injury perhaps playing a role. Though he should latch on with another organization soon enough, Janssen probably won't find a big-league job before Opening Day.

Padres' Casey Janssen: Signs minor league deal with Padres
Janssen signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training Saturday with the Padres.
Janssen had a season to forget in Washington during 2015. Shoulder issues impeded him out of the gate and he did not get much better from there, finishing with a 4.95 ERA in 40 innings while blowing all three of his save opportunities. He has a decent enough track record from before 2015 to think he makes the Padres' 25-man roster, so long as he is at 100 percent. If he gets there, he is definitely a candidate for some late inning duties.

Casey Janssen: Option declined
Janssen's mutual option for 2016 was declined Monday and he will now become a free agent, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.
Janssen's lone season in Washington was a bumpy one, as he posted a 4.95 ERA and failed to record a save and he'll now be free to find a new home. The 34-year-old likely won't be able to land a closer role out of the gate, but with 90 saves to his name, the righty could work his way into higher leverage situations wherever he lands.
