Martin is considered day-to-day and will miss Sunday's preseason opener against the Knicks due to a thumb laceration and sprained right wrist.
Martin injured himself on a block attempt during training camp. The 29-year-old is expected to be back for Opening Night, but he will likely be considered day-to-day through the rest of the preseason. Martin will likely serve as a backup wing while competing for playing time with Tidjane Salaun, Tre Mann and Seth Curry.

Martin (ankle) was able to go through Tuesday's practice to open training camp.
Martin is coming off another injury-plagued season with the Hornets. He appeared in 28 games during the 2023-24 campaign and averaged 7.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 three-pointers in 26.9 minutes per game. The Hornets love his versatility, and he's likely to have a decent role off the bench if he can stay on the floor.

Hornets' Cody Martin: Shut down for rest of season
Hornets head coach Steve Clifford confirmed Wednesday that Martin (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. "Those two guys are not going to be able to come back," Clifford said of Martin and Seth Curry (ankle). "And it doesn't mean we can't play well. It doesn't mean we can't be proud of how we play. But that's just where we are at. Listen, it's not ideal."
Within the past two days, the Hornets have elected to shut down Martin, Curry and LaMelo Ball (ankle) for the season while all three have already missed extended time with ankle injuries, and Boone relays that center Mark Williams' (back) season is most likely over as well. Martin appeared in 28 games (22 starts) this season and averaged 7.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 three-pointers in 26.9 minutes per game. Martin has played in just 35 games the last two seasons due to injuries but has one more guaranteed year on the four-year contract he signed in July 2022, so he should be back in Charlotte for the 2024-25 season.

The Hornets announced Monday that Martin (ankle) will be evaluated in two weeks.
Martin and Seth Curry (ankle) are slated to miss at least the next two weeks, and with LaMelo Ball (ankle) also out indefinitely, the Hornets will likely have to rely on the likes of Vasilije Micic, Bryce McGowens and Nick Smith to fill more minutes out of the backcourt, Health has been an issue for Martin all season long, as he's appeared in 42 of 63 games thus far.

The severity of Martin's injury is unknown at this time, but he's expected to be evaluated Saturday. He compiled 12 points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3PT, 3-3 FT), four rebounds, two assists and two blocks across 32 minutes before exiting.

Hornets' Cody Martin: Hands out 10 assists in win
Martin recorded 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, 10 assists, one block and two steals in 31 minutes during Sunday's 93-80 win over Portland.
Martin has been doing an excellent job since being promoted to a starting role in late January, but this was one of his best performances of the season by a sizable margin. Aside from the fact the 10 assists were a season-high mark for him, it was also his first double-double since the 2020-21 campaign. Martin should remain in a starting role when the Hornets take on the Bucks on Tuesday.
