Top Frank Ntilikina News

  • Mavericks' Frank Ntilikina: Signs with Mavericks

Ntilikina has signed with the Mavericks, Dwain Price of the Mavericks' official site reports.

Ntilikina was a free agent for about a month after the Knicks renounced his rights in early August. The former 2017 first-round selection struggled to find playing time last season while dealing with COVID-19 issues and various injuries. The guard appeared in just 33 games averaging 2.7 points with New York in 2020-21. Ntilikina will presumably be buried on the Mavericks' depth chart behind Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson and Trey Burke to begin the 2021-22 season.

  • Frank Ntilikina: Rights renounced by Knicks

Ntilikina became a free agent Wednesday after the Knicks renounced his rights, freelance writer Keith Smith reports.

After four mostly disappointing seasons, the Knicks finally cut bait on the eighth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, who never developed into a full-time rotation player in New York. After appearing in 78 games as a rookie, Ntilikina saw action in just 43 games the following season and 57 games in 2019-20. He bottomed out with just 33 appearances in 2020-21, logging 2.7 points in 9.8 minutes per contest. Just 23 years old, Ntilikina still has some intrigue as a defensive-minded guard with good size and length, but his lack of growth on the offensive end has been a significant disappointment. Ntilikina will now hit the free agent pool and look to catch on with another team -- or perhaps head overseas -- for the 2021-22 season.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Doesn't play Wednesday

Ntilikina (coach's decision) didn't play during Wednesday's loss to the Timberwolves.

This was the third straight game in which Ntilikina was held sidelined. As long as Derrick Rose continues to stay healthy, the Frenchman's minutes will likely be limited. In 17 outings this season, Ntilikina is averaging 4.1 points and 1.4 rebounds.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Receiving another start

Ntilikina will start Thursday's game against Orlando.

With the Knicks severely depleted in the backcourt by injuries and health protocols, Ntilikina will receive his third start across the last seven games. The 22-year-old point guard went scoreless across seven minutes during his last start on March 13, but he should have an opportunity for a heightened workload Thursday.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Could be set for another start

Ntilikina could be set for another start at point guard Monday against the Nets.

Derrick Rose (COVID-19 protocols) has already been ruled out and Elfrid Payton (hamstring) is doubtful, so the Knicks will likely lean heavily on the Ntilikina-Immanuel Quickley combo. Ntilikina got the start against the Thunder on Saturday, but he ended up playing just seven minutes, as coach Tom Thibodeau opted to roll with Quickley (33 minutes) for most of the night.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Starting Saturday

Ntilikina is starting Saturday's game against the Thunder.

Ntilikina will take on a starting role for the second time this season with Elfrid Payton (hamstring) unavailable. With Derrick Rose (COVID-19 protocols) also out against Oklahoma City, Ntilikina and Immanuel Quickley should see plenty of run for the Knicks.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Plays just 13 minutes Thursday

Ntilikina had just nine points (3-4 FG, 3-3 3Pt) in 13 minutes during Thursday's 114-104 victory over Detroit.

Ntilikina came into the game as questionable after suffering a bruised quad in Tuesday's win. Although he was ultimately able to get out there for the Knicks, he barely bothered the scorers' table, failing to record a single stat outside of his nine points. Obviously, Ntilikina is not a 12-team or even a 14-team asset at this point.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Available against Pistons

Ntilikina (quadriceps) is available for Thursday's game against the Pistons.

Ntilikina was questionable due to a bruised quad Thursday, but he'll be able to suit up for the Knicks' final game before the All-Star break. He could see a slight uptick in usage against Detroit with Derrick Rose (COVID-19 protocols) unavailable.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Questionable Thursday

Ntilikina is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against Detroit due to a bruised quad.

Ntilikina is seemingly always battling some sort of nagging injury, and this time it's a bruised quad, which he sustained during Tuesday's loss to the Spurs. With Elfrid Payton (hamstring) and Derrick Rose (health and safety protocols) sidelined, Ntilikina started that contest, so there's a chance he could make another start Thursday if he's cleared to play and Payton and Rose -- who are both questionable on the latest injury report -- are not.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Scores 13 points Tuesday

Ntilikina had 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-3 3Pt) and two rebounds across 25 minutes in Tuesday's loss against the Spurs.

Ntilikina got a rare start Tuesday due to Derrick Rose (COVID-19 protocols) being out, and the Frenchman made the most of it -- he only missed two shots from the field and was one of four Knicks to score in double digits. Elfrid Payton is also out due to a hamstring injury, so Ntilikina has a good shot at remaining a starter in Thursday's game against the Pistons unless head coach Tom Thibodeau decides to give a start to rookie Immanuel Quickley, who scored 26 points off the bench in this game.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Enters starting five

Ntilikina will start Tuesday's game at San Antonio.

The 22-year-old will receive his first start of the season with Derrick Rose (COVID-19 protocols) out Tuesday. Ntilikina saw his first playing time since December over the past three games with Elfrid Payton (hamstring) sidelined, and he should have an even larger role with Rose also unavailable.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Picks up three steals

Ntilikina totaled seven points (3-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three steals and two assists in the Knicks' 140-121 victory over the Kings on Thursday.

In his first game action since Dec. 29, Ntilikina played 23 minutes and picked up a season-high steals total. The guard has not been a consistent feature in the Knicks' rotation this season and also missed some time due to COVID-19 protocols, but with Elfrid Payton (hamstring) out of the lineup, Ntilikina saw some extended playing time. On the season, Ntilikina has played in five games and averaged 5.0 points, 1.2 steals and 1.0 assist.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Left out of rotation in return

Ntilikina (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) was active for Wednesday's game against the Magic, but he didn't play in the Knicks' 107-89 loss.

Ntilikina had been away from the Knicks for four consecutive games while waiting to clear the protocol. He hadn't been a fixture in head coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation prior to missing time, so Ntilikina's lack of usage in his return came as little surprise. Ntilikina will likely need a trade elsewhere just to attain a degree of fantasy relevance in deeper leagues.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: To be available Wednesday

Ntilikina (COVID-19 protocols) will be available for Wednesday's game against Orlando, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports.

Ntilikina has continued to test negative for COVID-19, clearing the league's health and safety protocols. The 22-year-old guard hasn't been in the team's rotation of late, not appearing in a game since Dec. 29.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Still out Monday

Ntilikina (COVID-19 protocols) won't play Monday against the Hawks.

Ntilikina will miss another game due to the league's health and safety protocols. His next chance to return will be Wednesday against Orlando.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Out Saturday

Ntilikina (COVID-19 protocols) is out Saturday against the Rockets.

Ntilikina continues to be sidelined due to health and safety protocols and, between that and a knee injury, hasn't seen the court since Dec. 29. His next chance to suit up arrives Monday against the Hawks.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Remains out Friday

Ntilikina (COVID-19 protocols) won't play Friday against the Wizards.

Ntilikina will be sidelined for a second straight game due to the league's health and safety protocols. It's not yet clear when he could return, but his absence shouldn't impact the Knicks' rotation.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: In health protocols

Ntilikina (COVID-19 protocols) will not play in Tuesday's game against the Heat.

Ntilikina becomes the first Knicks player to be subjected to the league's health and safety protocols, meaning he'll miss Tuesday's game at the very least. Ntilikina reportedly did not test positive for COVID-19, but had close contact with someone who did test positive. The 22-year-old guard has been out of New York's rotation since Dec. 29, so his absence will have no on-court impact.

  • Knicks' Frank Ntilikina: Out of rotation

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed Monday that Ntilikina isn't a part of the team's regular rotation, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports.

After overcoming a knee injury that sidelined him for nearly three weeks, Ntilikina has been cleared to play since Jan. 24, but he hasn't seen the floor in the Knicks' subsequent five contests. Thibodeau's confirmation that Ntilikina is out of the rotation thus comes as no surprise, as all of Elfrid Payton, Reggie Bullock, Immanuel Quickley, Austin Rivers and Alec Burks look to be ahead of him in the pecking order at either guard spot. The Knicks will likely need to be without at least two of those five players for Ntilikina to see even limited run off the bench in competitive games.
