    The Hornets waived Johnson on Friday. Johnson's vacated roster spot was filled by the incoming Brandon Slater. After Johnson played for the G League's Greensboro Swarm a year ago, James Plowright of CLTure.org notes that the Hornets likely waived the swingman's Exhibit 10 deal to help fill their G League roster. Across 34 regular-season appearances for the Swarm last season, Johnson averaged 17.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.9 steals in 32.5 minutes per game.

  • Keyontae Johnson: Signs with Charlotte

    The Hornets signed Johnson to a deal Thursday, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. Johnson spent the 2024-25 season with the G League's Greensboro Swarm, and he's back with the Charlotte organization ahead of the new campaign. The 2023 second-rounder will be trying to claim a roster spot either for the parent club or the G League squad during training camp. Across 34 regular-season outings for Greensboro last year, Johnson averaged 17.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.9 steals in 32.5 minutes per game.

    Johnson was waived by the Hornets on Friday. Johnson joined the club on a non-guaranteed pact in August, though he is now expected to play for the Greensboro Swarm of the G League. The 24-year-old was signed to a two-way contract with the Thunder last season, and he appeared in nine regular-season outings while averaging only 7.3 minutes per game.

  • Thunder's Keyontae Johnson: Heading to Oklahoma City

    Johnson was selected by the Thunder with the 50th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Johnson had a tumultuous collegiate career, as he collapsed on the court in December of 2020 while playing for Florida and was later diagnosed with an increase in cardiac mass. He transferred to Kansas State in August of 2022 and was cleared to play during the 2022-23 season. The 23-year-old averaged 17.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 34.1 minutes per game with the Wildcats and was medically cleared for the NBA Draft in May. He has a solid catch-and-shoot game and will attempt to carve out a role in Oklahoma City.
