James was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars on Monday.
Rookie Kenneth Walker was waived in corresponding move in order to make room on the roster. James was most recently waived by the Bills. He projects as a long shot for a spot on the final roster, but the 27-year-old's most likely route will be through a special teams role.

James, who originally signed with Buffalo in May, will now head back to free agency if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

James has become an NFL journeyman since going undrafted in 2013, spending time with Giants, Texans and Colts. He'll now compete with a plethora of defensive backs in Buffalo for a spot on the 53-man roster this fall.

The Texans opted to waive James on Monday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.
James gave up a long touchdown pass to Packers' wide receiver Jordy Nelson in Sunday's loss to the Packers, which may have played a factor in the decision to release him. He was subsequently replaced by cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz on the team's roster. The 26-year-old had played in ever game this season, recording 18 tackles and one pass defended.
